Stator is right in principle that E7 is dearer in the daytime, but if you're heating by electric your daytime usage would have to have a pretty bizarre for E7 to cost more. If there's no gas the previous occupant made a mistake removing the storage heaters. If they're costing too much, just turn them off or down a bit.
If you're staying with daytime heaters, Theartfuldodger is right to a point, 2kW is 2kW is 2kW no matter what type of heater you have. However, radiant heat is known to be more effective for heating space than convection. Why? Convection heats the air in a space, not the objects in a space directly. Air is used as a medium to carry heat to the objects in a room, making this method intrinsically less efficient for providing a comfortable room temperature. Heated air is lost every time a door opens or through leaks in the building envelope. Infrared radiant heaters will maintain a constant comfortable thermal level, eliminating additional energy demand associated with heating more air. Infrared radiant heaters store heat energy within all zone thermal masses. This characteristic of infrared heat affectively makes all thermal mass exposed to infrared rays into radiant heaters themselves, getting far more use out of each kwh taken off the grid. Simply stated, the nature of infrared radiant heat allows heat to remain in a zone much longer and better distributed than any other heating method.0 -
How big is your studio flat, is it in a new build block or conversion with high ceilings old windows etc
All this will have a bearing on how much you will use.
I agree with others in that you should not have removed the economy 7 heating.0 -
The previous owner removed the storage heating, nothing to do with the OP.
I had economy 7 tariffs and always found even if you kept the daytime usage to a minimum, once the storage heaters were no longer operable, it was an expensive tariff. If no gas, everything is electric.0 -
Apologies op I did not realise previous owners had removed heating.
It looks like you will have to swallow any bills for the winter period and think about what to do for next year.
Re; the portable gas heater as offered as an alternative above, do read this

and check with your local fire safety officer what their rules are for attending a fire if caused by one before purchasing.
I would still like to know what type of bedsit you are in old or new?0 -

Install air conditioning with a heat function
This is because an air conditioner is basically a heat pump, which makes it far more efficient than any other form of electrical heating.
From what I gather 1 unit of electricity generates 3 units of heat0 -
In good conditions. The weather really needs to be above freezing outside to get a reasonable figure.Install air conditioning with a heat function

If the temperature outside is below zero then you may as well just use a convector heater as that will be just as efficient.:footie:

Removing the economy 7 was a pretty stupid thing for the previous owner to do! The whole point of economy 7 is to make heating cheaper. We have it in our flat and it is expensive December to February when heating is on full, but our bills in summer are around £40 per month so it evens out.
It might be that your flat is warm anyway if it's surrounded by others, my friend said she hardly uses her heating because the heat from the other flats keeps hers warm, and because it's all one room the heat from cooking warms it up too.0
