Currency Question

Hello all, hoping I can glean a little help from you all on a conundrum I have.

So I am soon coming to the end of a 6 month period living in Spain. I will soon be receiving my deposit back from the landlord (€1200). He offered me the option to receive it as cash or bank transfer to my Spanish Bank account (the day after we meet to return the keys and I will be on my way back to the UK by that point). As I would feel more comfortable having the cash, ensuring that the landlord doesn't try to retain the money once I've left the country, I will have €1200 which I will need to convert back into GBP. I'm planning on closing my spanish account a few days before I leave, in case there are any issues with that.

So my question is, what would everyone recommend is the best way to get this money back into Euros? I recall when I paid the deposit I used the Amex in the airport (ordering online to get a good rate) and got over 1000 Avios for it which was pretty handy, but I can't see a way to do the reverse. I am aware that 'buy back' exchange rates in the UK won't be great but I don't know anyone who I could sell the Euros to for a holiday or anything. Should I try and exchange the Euros here in Spain before I leave?

If anyone has any info, advice or has been in a similar situation I would love to hear from you. Thanks in advance.

Jacob.

I use https://www.currencyfair.com/ to transfer money from my UK account to a Euro account in Cyprus

They send money whichever way you want, so could transfer it back to you.

I don't see why you need to close your account ASAP???

You may end up £10 or so better off by transferring from your Spanish account via something like CurrencyFair or TransferWise - but I wouldn't say it's enough of a difference to base the decision on, so do whatever is most convenient for you.

Any reason why you want to close your Spanish account? Unless it charges a monthly fee, it might be handy to have a Euro account available.
