A family member works at a local airport and has daily contact with Monarch. Their colleagues have received direct intel from monarch Hq, just down the road, stating the airline is indeed in trouble.
My neighbours cat said he'd been speaking with the dog from across the street who assured him everything will be ok. Hard to know what to believe.0 -

Monarch flights (as most airlines) do not have ATOL protection.
That in itself isn't indicative of any additional problems. There's nothing to suggest the money isn't there to renew it. Just that the ATOL was due for renewal in any case and the current owners want to wait until the takeover is complete (and therefore let the new owners renew it).
As you say the ATOL bond only covers a small percentage of Monarch's business (Holidays and Cosmos basically)0
