Do I have to upgrade ipad to ios 8?

I've got an ipad with retina display, the one that came out just before the iPad Air. Can I just stay on ios 7? I'm worried if I don't upgrade to ios 8, it'll not be secure and I'll end up getting hacked or something. I've read about the features in this new update and I'm not really interested in any of them. I didn't even want to upgrade to ios 7 but then there was some security issue that flagged up on a website I use, so I gave in and installed it.
Also, I think my ipad updates apps automatically. Is it likely to install ios 8 without me selecting to do so?

No you dont have to update if you dont want to.0

I know some people who have decided to NOT update.
Apps won't update to a version that doesn't support the currently-installed version of iOS. And iOS will only auto-update if you have it configured as such ... an app won't cause iOS to update.0 -
No you don't have to.....
I upgraded from iOS6 to iOS8 so didn't upgrade to iOS7 since I didn't like the new icon, but I had an issue with my iPad so had to do a full reset and back-up so I did iOS8 at the sametime.
My iPhone is still on iOS6.
It's wiser to have the latest software, but you don't have to; just don't upgrade it if you don't wannt it.0 -
i dont think you have to update to the ios 80

have they done away with safari, as it's gone from browsers?0 -
It's probably gone the way of M$ and the EU anti-competition rules ... they need to provide an option of browser and not force Safari on the users. (Like M$ had to offer an option and not force IE on users).0

You sure this was IOS8? There is no such choice to make as far as I'm aware. Safari is still the officially supported browser by Apple.0 -
I'm not sure what it was, it was just the latest update, so, I just applied it.TadleyBaggie wrote: »You sure this was IOS8? There is no such choice to make as far as I'm aware. Safari is still the officially supported browser by Apple.
It took a while, and I had to allow, or not google location, and i,cloud, which I don't use.
I've always used safari, but when I tap it, up pops the box, and Yahoo is the only browser.in the box espn, disney, and apple?
I have google browser, but it's too slow.so, it's google, yahoo, bing, or duckduckgo.under search engine.I have not altered anything?
edit;;just checked..ios 8 is up to date;;so, it must have been ios8 update.0 -

sounds like they have made some changes but i have decided not to update my iphone and ipad because i would dont have enough on them and i would need to delete my apps and photos to update the ios0 -
I presume you've noticed they've swapped the bookmarks icon to the left hand side? The Yahoo, espn, etc all come up when I press the + button at the top to open a new tab. The bookmarks button then brings up my google, etc.0
