Solicitors have lost my driving licence

My solicitors asked me to send 4 separate pieces of original ID. As I'm a FTB and live with my parents I have very little ID (no utility bills, mortgage paperwork etc etc) so had to send both my drving licence and passport. Stupidly I didn't write a letter mentioning everything I was including

Needless to say my inept solicitors have lost the driving licence card and have written me a snotty letter to say there is no proof that it was ever sent. I know it's only £22 for a new licence but it really is a principal thing. Have I got any rights?

Thanks

I do not know of any "Rights" as they state that there is no proof that you included it, and you have not stated you have any(proof).

Did you post them in, or were they hand delivered?

Did you include a covering letter?

It was posted next day recorded delivery but stupidly I didn't include a list of every item that was included in the package.

They are the solicitors that Britannia recommended to me as part of their own conveyancing service so the complaint should probably go through them

Since they have acknowledged receipt of the letter, it's your word against theirs.

To send valuable items through the normal post was careless, to send them without a covering letter even more so.

I beleive that you would have to exhaust the solicitors own complaints system before Brittania would get involved.

I may be wrong, but there is no such service as next day recorded delivery.

Items like this should be sent by Special delivery(With consequential loss), not recorded delivery.

Next day recorded delivery does indeed exist and the solicitors specifically asked me to post it in this manner, they then sent the paperwork back using the exact same service.

I know there probably isn't anything that can actually be done but what really annoyed me was their blase attitude to their own carelessness.

I'm hoping that when I notify the DVLA of my change of address that they'll only require the paper document (they will send a new licence out for free if it is a COA)

Sorry but it does not exist

There is next day guaranteed special delivery(blue/silver labels) which is tracked through the network or recorded delivery (red labels)which is not guaranteed timescale and not trackable until it reaches the destination and is signed for

Could it have been nicked while in the postal system ?

    Hi,
Please let me know how you get on with this, as recently a solicitor in Blackpool who was initially working on our behalf to sell our property lost my passport (about a week before I needed it to fly) and although they sent a list of things to post to them, which we duly sent back with the stated documents and it was sent recorded delivery, (which they signed for) They denied that it had ever been in the packet, with my husband's passport and the various other documentation - it was a case of prove it was in there! Very unprofessional! We immediately changed solicitors and had a smooth transaction from that moment on, but the initial stress and the fact I had to travel to Glasgow to get another passport fast tracked at the cost of over £100 which included the passport + travel (never mind the day off work). We complained several times to the solicitor, who was very rude so we then complained to her senior partner, who was going to investigate - but we have heard nothing since. We didn't get any bills for using their service, but as it was in the very early stages I don't think they had actually done anything anyway. Should I fight for a refund for my passport fees, or is it really not worth the trouble?

Only special delivery is guaranteed for next day delivery. What colour is the slip? Have you checked the tracking number on the RM site?
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

i have sent some important documents with a guaranteed time of delivery the next day - one even arrived with the post guy knocking on the door at 6am to wake up a sleepy recipient. it cost a shed-load for a letter (£12?) - but was cheaper than driving 400 miles !! i cannot remember the name of the service.

As I said before, they have acknowledged receipt of the letter, so whether it was recorded or special delivery has luckily not really factored.
