brake issues on new (to me) car

Just to clarify I didn't take it back to dealer to sort out straight away as brake issue came up during its service on Saturday. I needed the car for work on Monday and thought even if I did contact dealer they would say it was just wear and tear, so it seemed easier to just get it done then. Dealer also about 30 miles away so would have caused further hassle getting car sorted in time for Monday.
I wasn't really expecting to be able to then claim back from the dealer but wanted to clarify that which I think has been.0 -
Just got it back, the brake pad wasn't quite lodged in properly so they re-adjusted it and seems OK now.
Tea Break , i suggest you find another mechanic.
Brake pads are either in or they're not, there's no half measures, not in correctly the locking pins won't go home and/or the caliper won't swing/slide into place....it's not beyond the bounds of possibility that some clot put one of the pads in back to front though, in other words steel backing plate facing the disc.0 -
The whirring sound came and went - if the pads were on backwards, wouldn't the noise have been continuous? Might need to look for another garage then. I've been with them a while but hard to judge as previous car was a Peugeot 206 (yes, I know) and did have a lot of work done on it, but then, they need a lot of work done on them, especially the suspension.0

Oh dear, brakes getting hot and giving off burning smell again. So I took it to a different garage as advised, one recommended to me. They said the brake pad with the new caliper had a clip bent back and hadn't been correctly inserted, so they bent clip round and now should be fine.(I'm paraphrasing here). Unfortunately the new brake pads are now showing signs of heat damage and should be replaced fairly soon. Must now take it back to original garage for fifth time and try and get them to replace the pads they put in, although I'm not sure I want them anywhere near my brakes again.0

At least you're getting somewhere now.
Not nice to find out your garage isn't up to scratch, thankfully they hadn't rebuilt an engine for you or something like, Lord knows what they could have bodged up there.0
