Sounds like they are new just damaged boxes so if I was going to buy one it would be one of these as I throw the box away, 18 or so left
The question I have is bread that much better than shop bought and what does it work out at per loaf with no fancy ingredients added because when I looked a few recipes up it looked like it was going to cost £1.20 - £1.50ish without electric
We have a Panasonic bread maker. Think Mr TS makes about 3 loaves out of bag flour (can't check with him away), I always buy yeast when it's on offer. Think we worked it out couple years ago about 60p a loaf of nice fresh crusty organic bread. Would be cheaper if you bought normal strong flour.
Not as cheap as whoopsied of course. But you can't beat that lovely aroma as it bakes.
Arthien I would recommend Panasonic we have had ours for years now. :T0 -

Well, a bag of bread flour is about £1. That's for 1.5kg which will make around 3 loaves. All you need to add is yeast; a pack of easy bake dried yeast is ~80p and lasts ages - maybe 10+ loaves, or you can use a sachet @ 28p per twinpack; sugar, about a teaspoon and a pinch of salt. That's all that's in a standard white loaf.
Making fancy loaves with eggs and fruit etc will obviously cost more, but when I used my breadmaker that's all I put in my bread and it was great!
All the fats etc in mass produced bread today are a result of the Chorleywood process which you may find interesting reading: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chorleywood_bread_process

Keep your vouchers and your money ... and wait for an Amazon Warehouse deal to get it cheaper if it is required (or Christmas for a present). I suspect that most people who buy breadmakers use them a couple of times and then they are consigned to the cupboard when the novelty soon wears off ... next to the Ice cream maker, waffle maker and other "can't live without" gadgets.

Have to disagree with you there Anon, this is the one gadget we have never got tired of.0 -

I did say "around" 3 loaves, in case you are making rolls or a different shaped loaf in the oven. You need to use some for kneading and shaping.
You can actually use plain flour for bread, or a mix of plain and bread flour. If you are making a wholemeal loaf you will probably need to add a vitamin C tablet to help it rise, or to leave the dough to rise for longer before baking. Making half wholemeal and half white (ie brown) seems to rise about as well as white iirc.
I really used to love HM bread and pizza dough, but now it's just me at home most of the time I don't bother. I really could polish off a loaf myself:eek:, so don't need the temptation!

Our machine has got a little box where you can add other ingredients like nuts or olives so it is a really cheap way of making some of those speciality breads supermarkets sell.0
