What do you all think of this?

DD had a call from her housemate this morning. She has been at their uni house alone over the weekend.
At 2.30 she was wakened by footsteps running up and down the hall and shouts of "police, police"
She was petrified but got up to find 4 uniformed police in the house. They had picked the locks:eek:

They said it was a crime initiative and they are doing it regularly around the area where a lot of students live.
DD's friend said she was shown proof of identity and was read the riot act for not bolting the door.

Suspicious is my middle name and I'm having to stop myself from calling the police to check this out but don't want to step on anyone's toes.....yet.

Has anyone ever heard of this type of thing happening?

I've heard of them opening doors that aren't locked and going in and speaking to the occupants/leaving a note. I think the local officers here do it in the summer as part of a crime initiative.

However, picking locks seems a bit much, I really can't imagine that there would be any kind of authority to do that (speaking as a police officer!). I would phone up the control room to check that it was legit, and if so, perhaps ask an officer to contact you or your daughter to explain exactly what went on. Could there have been any misunderstanding on your daughters part - for example, did she maybe forget to lock the door and so it just opened?

Hope you get to the bottom of it, sounds very scary for her.

    Stop lurking......your thread needs you:)

I've rang the police and they have read back the incident report. I shouldn't post any more details. Sorry to sound mysterious :o

Suffice to say that I am 100% happy that the police acted appropriately. Thanks for all your replies

Ah, I hadn't got to this before I replied to your other post!

Glad its all sorted and the police haven't been doing things they shouldn't!

Probably telling you how to suck eggs, but you can usually get mirror glass cut from a glaziers, can be a cheap way to get them. What I used once in the past was these. Almost floor to ceiling, and look good too.

I have two of those IKEA Hovet mirrors in my living room, I got mine from ebay and gumtree, both less than £15 each! :money:
I'm not vain by the way, I bought them as I have a tiny living room and the mirrors at one end reflect the light and make the room feel so much bigger.
You can see part of the mirrors in the back ground here (behind my sofa hogging dogs!):

I know springdreams I was a bit surprised. It was worrying me at the party what was happening to them all. I asked on way out and groom said take them if you want 'please' lol. I think because they were taking all the others themselves. Was only one on our table but most had 2 in the bowl. Shopping for a little tank today. Where is best place please ? Tia

OMG Glad I wasn't there I am so soft I would have brought them all home. What a daft thing to have as a centre piece to a table? Fish are really sensitive to sound & light? Well done for bringing one home & I hope they sorted something for all the others?

Well done, that's an amazing amount raised for a fantastic cause.

Glitch on tuna and sours if anyone loves shots.
Princes tuna 4pk in brine is currently $3 in store but $5 in a.com compares to T at $3, so 70p for a pk of 4.
Sourz is currently $8 in store but $12.50 on a.com compares to T at $8.50, so $3.25 a bottle.

This only works on hd or collection. Confirmed in today's and yesterdays order

Apple sourzs are £12.50 in my store, but the tuna is £3

    thanks

I would call the police, and if it was them I would raise my dissatisfaction with the commander.

Sorry, catching up and see this is resolved x
