ISPs may soon be able to offer fibre broadband without a phone line

The Single Order GEA service from BT Openreach - also known as 'naked FTTC' - would be billed as a single item instead of the usual combination of BT line rental with broadband and other services on top.
ISPs would be able to charge a flat fee for naked FTTC, and offer customers a VoIP (voice over IP) service for their phone, if they don't just choose to use Skype or a mobile phone

Sadly I expect that any savings will be tiny just as they are with VM broadband only pricing.0

As I read it, the way it will work is that the wholesale part of "line rental" will be taken over by the ISP.
