As has been said, all that would do is show you have entered the car park, the clock would continuously tick up until you leave the car park.
They could easily show you have exceeded your stay, whether you returned or not. Worse case scenario is they could match the vehicle leaving with a false plate and let the law deal with the offence.

Just wondering - if you were aware that you had possibly exceeded the time limit at a car park with APNR cameras, could you just whack a bit of gaffer tape over your numberplates before you drive out? Sounds too simple and probably is!
Has been discussed many times. Presumably you'll be testing this out in the very near future and letting us know how it went for you?Please note, we are not a legal advice forum.
