Obscuring number plates

Sorry if this has come up before!
Just wondering - if you were aware that you had possibly exceeded the time limit at a car park with APNR cameras, could you just whack a bit of gaffer tape over your numberplates before you drive out? Sounds too simple and probably is!

  • Obviously you would remove it asap...
  • no , you would be driving a vehicle "on a public highway" (access by general public) , and breaking the law.
  • True, but how are they going to find you? Unless there's a cop waiting just outside the car park...

It's pointless unless you had the plate obscured on the way in as well.

All that would do would make the system think that you hadn't left.

So you might well get a ticket for parking for 24hr - or more.
  • however , how can they produce a "ticket" with only the entry time?

I imaging the silly sods could produce a ticket out of thin air as they seem to do for many folks at the moment with un-obscured plates.

Normal logic does NOT apply to PPCs. ;)

As has been said, all that would do is show you have entered the car park, the clock would continuously tick up until you leave the car park.

They could easily show you have exceeded your stay, whether you returned or not. Worse case scenario is they could match the vehicle leaving with a false plate and let the law deal with the offence.
