It's getting to the point of backing up all your data and re-installing windows by the sound of it....
edit - in ccleaner, you can export your list of startup items as a text file, copy and paste that list up here, it may throw up a clue..........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

I'll just update everyone as to what I've done thus far but to no avail:
1. Ran AVG anti-virus software and removed all viruses found.
2. Updated Spyboy S&D (I assume updates relate to Global and Europe) and removed all threats found.
3. Ran Malwarebytes AntiMalware trial version and removed threats found.
4. Ran CCleaner.
5. Re-set the Firefox browser.
The laptop is still running extremely poorly, Facebook pages take an age to load and Youtube clips frequently stall for minutes at a time. I'm not on my laptop for the next few days so I'm wondering what the next best course of action is.
On top of the above problems, spreadsheets are now failing to load without error messages appearing.
1) Backup files on to CD/USB
2) Re-install Windows
3) Put files/programs back on
4) Job done, like new0 -
I get this stuff too, oh you should be running RAID 5 / RAID 10, JBOD.....
I mean really? Like why. I have photos from family holidays and stuff but have these backed up to mulitple devices use an app for it on my PC that automatically uploads screenshots to Imgur where I have a few free cloud apps and generally store my photos on them aswell as local devices such as tablet / but you can still do the same by pressing the 'ALT GR' + 'PRT SCN'. No doubt windows will shove it in the downloads folder. I would right-click the file once downloaded and right-click on the file you downloaded, you can then either cut and paste or copy and paste (leaving the original in the downloads folder. Whilst you can do all of the above from the original downloads folder I always found it better to cut and paste files into a 'temp' directory.
Once you have your file, pop onto www.imgur.com and you should be able to find where to upload your pictures for free. Browse and you should find a means to upload any pictures or pdf files, browse to the file. Once uploaded Imgur will give you a direct link in several formats, ie. one for web access, one for like a dropbox download, one for an email link, another for a forum link. All of my sensitive stuff (photo's mainly - and, not dodgy!) is stored within 3 clouds, two PC's, a flaptop and 2x HTC OneM8 phones. Oh and I have a 3Tb external USB drive, just in case. Just pick the one you require. In this case I would simply provide the direct http access as the forum links it gives ends up with the picture being huge and causes the page formatting to break. Going into that explanation (regarding the 'cropping of pictures or shrinking the file size) will have to do for another day.
Good luck with it.

Hmmm, just slow internet and you're using Firefox.... I'm so fed up with the speed since the last few Ff updates I'm thinking of using a different default browser. Have you tried that?Once it's gone, it's gone - so remember...

a lot of people are making suggestions, but no one is making the simplest one: upgrade your RAM.
i would guess that out of your current 3GB of RAM, at least 1 to 1.5 GB i s used by Windows and various Windows processes. That leaves you with another 1.5 to 2GB of RAM for EVERYTHING ELSE. even using chrome with a few tabs open will likely use several hundred MB of RAM.
as a quick solution, type in 'msconfig' without the quotes into the search bar at the bottom of the start button. then go to startup, then uncheck all the programs you don't need running right when you start up your computer. after that, the only option you have left is to upgrade your RAM. if you like to multi-task (and/or use multiple monitors), i would recommend at least 8GB.
also, is your WiFi connection strong? perhaps your internet is slow because you're too far from your router (assuming you connect wirelessly).0
