Hi everyone, I have a cookworks slow cooker 6.5 Ltr. So far I have only used it for stews and a joint of brisket, which were ok, but to be honest, not a good as how I normally cook them. ( not sure what I'm doing wrong ). The lid does not seem at tightly fitting as I expected, and I'm wondering if it's faulty and I need to buy a better one.
I want to try a cook a whole chicken in it and saw somewhere on here that you don't need to put any liquid in at all, is this right? I'm kind of scared it will burn and stick to the bottom.
The slow cooker, came with a recipe booklet and instructions but I can't find them.
Any tips or advice, would be gratefully appreciated.

I usually just throw my chicken in on its own but my slowcooker is an ancient one that I have had since about 1982 and the old ones were better insulated than the new ones so not as prone to drying out.
I would cook it upside down with just a splash of liquid to be on the safe side.0 -
Thank you Lilyplonk Checking out the links now.
And will try your cooking suggestion for the chicken, HoneythewitchWell Behaved women seldom make history

I've had a Cookworks SC before and the lid was very loose, rattled constantly. I accidentally dropped it so bought a new one, Andrew James, and the lid fits nicely and its silent. Although the Cookworks one cooked ok the lid issue did drive me nuts (and I did really accidentally drop it!!) The new one I feel does perform better overall and I probably wouldn't get a Cookworks one again.Let's get ready to bumble! :rotfl:0

I have the same problem, only paid £19.99 for it from Argos, but the reviews were very good...do you make nd me asking which one you replaced it with, I think I might replace mine when pay day arrivesWell Behaved women seldom make history

I've got a morphy richards one from amazon (was about £23) and the liner can be used on the hob to brown your meat / saute off your veg before cooking. Haven't tried that part yet but it's done me very well so far. I just throw in a whole chicken with some onion and carrot and it's the best way of cooking a chicken I've ever found. The meat just falls off the bone and doesn't dry out.Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20170

Hello Everyone,
I am brand new to this site, and this is my first comment.
Over time I found that your website popped up frequently on my Google searches...and I kept meaning to join up.
It's now 1:25AM, I'm having one of my sleepless nights due to pain.
I am searching the internet for a slow cooker, but I could not find a specific chat topic here for What Is The Best SlowCooker 2014.
The only thing I thought I could do is post a Reply to post concerning slow cookers.
I am sure that I have done this all wrong, and would be grateful for any constructive criticism that I as a newbie may well need.
Thanks for taking the time to read this..I look forward to hearing back from you..0 -
Usually I'd go to Amazon or Argos and search by highest rates in the SC section.
Mine is a Morphy Richards sear and serve and I love it, as I can fry/brown things on the hob then slow cook it without using two pans!0 -

 hello SmileyEyes, welcome to the boards.
I can't help you specifically with a recommendation as mine is ancient but if you click on the link in Lilyplonk's post (post number 2) for the Complete Slow Cooker Index , you'll fine recommendations on there. I'm not sure how current it is but, as well as recipes, there are also tips which might help you decide what you want.0
