This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Cold but clear here, hoping it will be another nice day. It was so nice at 6pm I left some towels out for another half hour, went to see a friend in hospital and the towels are still there! Didn't get in till about half 8 so they would have been damp by then anyway. More washing to go out later.

More painting to do today, I am on the doors now, the reverse of which is a bit fiddly as they are ledged and braced. Friends coming for Sunday dinner so need to go shopping, think I will do that soon and then I can get on with painting. Will need to pick DD up sometime today too, she stayed in Glasgow last night.

HH - hope DD and baby are ok.
Hugs to those not feeling so good - TTFTM I think it's time for you to pay a visit to the doctor.

    Enjoy Sunday. Take care. XX

DGD & dog were up before 6:30, I've made hubby a cuppa, walked the dog & DGD & I have made some dolls clothes & next we are making sprinkle cakes. As I was walking the dog on the local green, a conker dropped on his head, he looked most offended, he seemed to think I'd thrown it at him, I did apologise but I'm not sure he was mollified, a dog treat seemed to do the trick eventually.
Hubby has put a washing line up for me under the covered gazebo at the back of the house so I hung the washing there before & went to bed & it is dry now.
Dog & DGD are both going home around lunchtime today & after that I'll tidy up & vacuum through, then I will put my feet up & rest, lol.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning all,

Little bit overcast here this morning but not raining, I will strip the bed after this and get it on to wash. I need to run to the local town this morning to get a prescription. I got a few bits of shopping for dd yesterday so will drop them off to her tonight once she has finished work.

Dinner tonight will be curry and rice with poppadoms OH can cook :D I want to get my car hoovered out today if possible it desperatly needs it but its my most hated job !

Got my phone back yesterday all fixed and new battery and camera put in all free of charge, :T. Took my laptop in to see if the man can save the photos, and we bought some taps ! So all in all a good day.

Right better get on, have good days all xx
  • Good Morning everyone, lovely start to the day here, bright and breezy so I,m going to get the bedding washed and out today to take advantage of the drying potential.

Not much planned today other than washing floors and making some more chutney to use up excess produce. Nice to have in the colder months but I really do think we need to cut back on the amount of things we grow now there are just the two of us, I seem to be giving away more than we're using. Maybe a rethink of numbers of plants is on the books for next season.

Have got a YS steak pie out of the freezer for lunch today which we'll have with homegrown cabbage, courgettes, mashed potato and gravy. Homegrown stewed apple and custard for pudding if we want it.

That Zebra has now got 2 x toothiepegs, goodness me they're popping up so quickly. DD is bringing him up to Hampshire to see a schoolfriend and is coming to see us for lunch on Wednesday so I'll get some more cuddles, wonderful stuff!!!

Have a good day all, Lyn xxx.

    Morning everyone.

Despite the forecast it's another lovely morning here. Must get out and walk. Found my unloved pocket sized DAB radio which has been unused for a few years. I used to listen to it when walking to and from a previous job. New battery and ear buds and it's perfect still.

Car passed it's MOT without any bother or advisorys so I took it for a run to Oban to celebrate. Needed to change the old adaptor blocks for proper power strips and found that T's had four way strips at £4.00. Also got new lamp bulbs for the bedside lamps as found that the new whizzy ones interfere with the radios and stopped them working when both where switched on. Resolved that annoying problem.

Got the two unwanted chests of drawers rehomed too which meant a visit from the softest, loveleyist most gentle black Lab who just put his head on my knee and groaned in delight as I scratched him. Bit like a cat but louder and shorter.

Going to watch boats going through the sea lock now. Season is almost finished, oooh, better check that it hasn't finished yet!

No idea what's for meals. No idea if OH is coming back from his jaunt today.

    Happy Sunday folks.
  • Good morning all,

Thank you Hester for starting today's thread.

Weather lovely here at the moment, just pottering around. We are out for lunch today so nothing to prepare, makes a nice change.

Hope JackieO is enjoying her weekend away.

TTFTM I think the consensus of opinion here is that you need to go to the Doctors. It has been going on a long time, probably because you are low after your op, and I think you need your GP to take a look at you.

Lyn, good news about Zebra's second toothipeg, there will be no stopping him now :)

Hugs and good wishes to all poorlies

    Have a good day

Tru I'm afraid I bought some xmas paper that was on offer last week :o

Busy weekend for us, took dd2 to uni yesterday , she seems ok although she didn't sleep well last night . Her room is lovely and her flat mates seem nice too. Really missed her last night.
Dd1 is going back to uni today , we are popping in to see dd2 on the way as there is a tour of the vet school where she will be at for parents :D
It's going to very quiet tonight :(

Put some towels on the line , the weather has been so damp I haven't been able to dry them and so have 2 full loads of them
Right off to pack the car

    Good morning everyone :)

Yes I agree, I think I do need to go to the doctors, I still feel terrible despite trying to convince myself I am getting better. I fell asleep on sofa last night before 8:30pm, DH woke me up at 11:30 for bed and I tried not taking horrible knock out cough medicine and coughed all night. I will phone for doctor's appointment tomorrow but I bet I will be better before I manage to get an appointment!

Speaking of Christmas, took DD shopping yesterday and bought her Christmas present! It was just too good to miss, she has wanted a bike for ages since hers was stolen. We have been looking at second hand ones on Gumtree, ebay, facebook etc but none have been great and all were around £50+. For the grand total of £59.40, we bought her a brand new 18 gear bike reduced in Asda and she is delighted :D

Sun is shining so bed is stripped and washing is about to finish. DH is ironing, then once washing is on the line, am going to try a short walk.

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day.

Morning all :hello: - wow! such a HS2046520bongf60r7k.gif here today. There must have been a 'heavy dew' early on as the grass and handrails are wet.

HScyboie_glitters.gif to anybody who's saying 'go stretch your wings' to offspring heading for Uni at the moment. It doesn't seem 5mins since we were all waiting expectantly for Exam Results in the summer :). Best of Luck to all of them with their studies and new friendships.

foryou.gif for all not feeling well just now comforting.gif.

Hester - thanks for starting the thread for today. Great idea from your OH with the washing line and gazebo :j.
redruby - brill news on the i-phone :j.
tru - we used to always go away in September, but then realised that christmas would creep up on us too quickly and we'd have no money left :(. As we go to Scotland, we always got stuck with the much shorter days as well - so we've now changed it to May :j.
Gers - Your car trip sounds fabulous and I'm so envious. I adore the journey down from Fort William to Oban - fantastic coastline - we try to do it on alternate visits :).
Mrs LurcherWalker - another day of baby cuddles - how lovely :A.
candlelight - enjoy your lunch out today :).
camelot - what on earth are you trying to do to yourself, hun? Painting, shopping, laundry, visitors for sunday lunch AND family taxi service - all on a Sunday !!! You after the 'Wonder Woman Of The Year Award' or summat ;).
TTFTM - I'm so pleased that you've decided to go to the GP - it'll put your mind at rest AND ours as well (((hugs))). Well done on the bargain buy for DD's Christmas Present :T.

Today is OH's birthday - and I'm in 'deep doodah' :o. With one thing and another - AND not going over the doorstep all week - I totally forgot to get him a card. To say 'he's not best pleased' is an understatement :(. Think this one is going to entail a bit of 'creeping' from me :rotfl:.

Last night's evening meal of soup was a good choice for me - all 'feels' fine this morning.

Have taken a couple of Pork Steaks out of the freezer - will have them with Actifry Roasties along with microwaved carrots & leeks. I prefer them done that way as the flavour seems far more concentrated than when boiled/steamed. I use the cooking liquid from doing the carrots/leeks for mixing with gravy granules (no meat juices from pork steaks).

Will make a start on knitting some christmas novelties later today while watching 'Four In A Bed' progs on TV. Always a good excuse to watch TV and knitt at the same time ;).

Had a phone call from the caravan place where we're going to stay for our trip to Scotland next month - as it'll be the end of October, they've changed our caravan to one with central heating :j. Think that could be a very good move ;). It's still got 3 bedrooms, but will make a great difference to our level of comfort. I know that Glen Nevis can get very cold at night, even in September, so no doubt late October will be HSshiver.gif.

Ok then, I'm off to have a shower, get dressed and do a creep job on Mr LP :rotfl:.

Have a good day everybody - hope all your plans work out well - luv Lilyplonk xx
