Car Hire - Insurance excess cover

I booked a hire car for the States (Florida) and assumed that what I paid was the final price, until I received an email to add Insurance Excess cover. Do I really need to purchase this? I don't want to get stung at the airport collection desk.

    How much is it....

I found it a 'peace of mind' thing.

If I had an accident I would have had to pay the first £200, it was worth paying about £8 for the cover.
like I say, just for the peace of mind, because they will go over the car with a fine tooth comb when you return it.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Sounds cheap - for how long?

Car hire insurance is a minefield, search the archives here. There are free standing excess insurances you can buy.

A complication in the US is as well as excess on the car, you sometimes need top-up liability on the third party as it's limited to quite a low level in some states.

If you compare it in cost to what you are paying for all the rest of your holiday including everything, it really is only a small cost.

    Hi,

Can you state what insurance you already have?

    CDW? Something else?

If they are trying to get you to reduce your excess, then look here 1st

    www.insurance4carhire.com

Excess can be very high - over $1000 is not uncommon!!

But remember that if you use the insurance4carhire you will need to pay for any excess & claim it back.
