Anybody would think they didn't want my money.

I was looking at a Galaxy S tablet, in a local phone shop, yesterday.
It seems to suit my needs, being Wi-Fi and Cellular.
Trouble is, it's apparently not available on PAYG.
The best deal seems to be just over £30pm, over 24 months.
Problem is, I don't fancy being tied into a DD for 24 months.
So I said, how about if I pay you 24 months (£720+) up front?
But no, they won't let me do it that way.
The only option would be, for me to take it on contract, then ring up a month later and pay it all off.
Trouble is, they'd consider that to beme buying myself out of the contract, at which point they'd disconnect the phone.
As I say, anybody would think they didn't want my money.

Well, why not buy one for £360 from Amazon then walk in to a phone shop and get a PAYG sim with voice/data ?. If they ask, you already have a handset and just need a sim.Never Knowingly Understood.

You didn't want it. Not they didn't want your money.
You could have easily just set aside £720 if you had it to cover the direct debits. You just wanted to walk into a shop and be awkward with a failed attempt at being clever.0 -
Not at all MSK.
I just don't like being tied into contracts, least of all a 2 year one.
Apart from anything else, there's nothing to stop them increasing the monthly amount, after I've signed up.
Anyway, I've just been looking at a Cellular Tablet for £499, with PAYG, so I'll probably get that instead.0 -
Hahaha, is it any convenience that your signature states that you have denied the bbc 724 pound and the contract cost is 720 ?0

Which will cost £720 which you already have upfront. There is no difference, how long the contract is doesn't matter as by the time you'd paid £720 by contract you could leave anyway.
Why can't you just pre load a credit card with £720 (a lot will let you do it) or put £720 in a bank account you don't use, set the direct debit up then forget about it and just cancel in 24 months?
Or look for it online via a cash back site, sign up that way then be up on the deal because of the cash back you got from signing up to a 24 month contract?0 -

That requires Bedsit Bob to give up his right to being awkward and silly. He doesn't seem the kind of person that could live with that."Always fulfil your needs, only fulfil your wants when your needs are no longer a concern" - citricsquid0 -
As Money-Saving-King and Smithers37 are being singularly insulting, they can have the pleasure of joining KOSS on my Ignore List.0

Some shops choose not to sell some phones other than on a contract, that's their right. Buy it elsewhere? Expansys for example. It does seem that you're rather making a mountain out of a molehill.0

I'd tend to agree with pmduk (are you going to put me on 'ignore' too?
).
If you can't find a deal you want in one shop, don't expect them to change to accommodate what suits you, look for the deal you want somewhere else.0 -

It's just using what is known as common sense.0
