Mum's dog bit my LO

Let me get this straight, the dog has bitten 3 children already. OK, it's "safely" inside the grandmothers house...just a thought though...
What happens if it were ever to get out and attack, but this time kill or seriously maims a child?
I'm a dog owner, my dog was mauled by two retreivers while out with my husband (our dog on lead, other two had escaped from a garden). One bit my husband's hand so we reported it to the police. We didnt want the dogs destroyed but wanted it recorded. Owner claimed they were nice doggies, out of character etc..
Then spoke to neighbours and found out they had attacked at least 3 other dogs but none of the owners had reported...
About a year later found out the owner had had both dogs destroyed. They had savaged another dog and the owner of that dog had reported it to the police.
Your child is more important than her dog. I'd never set foot in her house until the dog is gone (and not rehomed unless a FULL explanation is given to the rehoming centre as to why its being handed over..rehoming without telling them is irresponsible).
Harsh - no, the dog is aggressive with children. It attacks unprovoked, your mum isn't capable of controlling it (its HER dog so HER responsibility to ensure its under control when you visit). Can she guarantee it will never get out the house and is muzzled when out on walks (especially if its off lead). If no, then its a child dog attack statistic waiting to happen ..0 -
Btw - I would never compare a dog to a child, I think your intelligence is more questionable.
Many people prefer dogs to humans, including their family, that's why a number of inheritance go to animals rescue homes rather than to their heirs.
Everyone is entitled to do what they want in their home. OP's mum has said that she respects the OP's decision not to bring her son over and that she accepts that she won't see her grandson whilst she is poorly, so she is being responsible, but OP makes it a 'bouhouh, she prefers her dog to her grandson' issue, which sounds to me very much like 'bouhouh, mum prefers my sister to me'.0 -
Timely article in today's mail online for those who scoff at the idea that dogs ever "terrorise" innocent people and think to say this can happen is being a drama queen
Man gets arm ‘ripped off’ by his two American bulldogs http://dailym.ai/1ud1JD1
From the article:The injured man has been regularly seen in the area walking up to seven bulldogs.
I doubt these 2 dogs were raised in the same way as a much-loved pet.0 -
I don't know how the numbers stack up but if euthanising every dog that bites meant that half the mild mannered dogs currently sitting in cages dogs homes would get a family home, could that be such a bad idea?

I would never compare a dog with a child either as, in my view, dogs are far nicer.
They are also far less trouble and usually easier to train - my pup at 9 weeks took 2 days to toilet train. I have also managed to train him to walk nicely and quietly at my side and not jump at people. Shame then that so many parents can't seem to manage to train their children so well. I am fed up with children running up to my dog, throwing their arms around him, shrieking in his face etc. One little darling ran up to him recently and hit him on his back with a book while the mother watched and said nothing. Of course if my dog were to even growl I would get accused of having an untrained vicious dogThe world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
Listen I'm really confused the title says "Mum's dog bit my LO" the abbreviation LO is short for 'leg off' isn't it? So basically her mum's dog bit her leg off?
I'm not really sure what to say other than unfortunately the dog should be put down0 -

Confused? Really?
The last time you made this joke (and I use the term 'joke' loosely), it fell on deaf ears. No reason to believe it will have any different reaction the second time around.

I've never heard of the abbreviation 'LO' to mean 'leg off'.
Check this out:

There's 58 examples of what 'LO' could mean and 'leg off' is not one of them.0 -
Really it doesn't matter if individual posters prefer dogs to kids or vice versa.
Our laws state if a dog bites a child badly the dog can be put down - if a child bites a dog however they won't be.
If the dog has an owner who is prepared to put their dog at this risk -knowing the dog has now bitten three of her grandchildren and makes no effort to prevent it happening again by refusing to shut the away when children are present then the owner isn't going right by her dog (or her grandchildren but that is a seperate issue)
Dogs that can't be controlled are just as much of a PITA as children who can't be controlled -but no-one is going to euthanize a child for- behaving badly so dog owners have a responsibility to their pets to protect them by ensuring they don't put them in situations that can lead to this "solution".
On a personal note I always find people who proclaim they prefer dogs to people a bit odd...... There are certainly *some* dogs I've met who are much nicer than *some* people I've met but the opposite is true too. I tend to like people who judge individuals (canine or human) rather than discriminate across entire species.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Maybe a good idea to read the whole thread and then you'll realise that, in this instance, 'LO' doesn't actually mean 'leg off'.0 -
