    • a warning should be given that legal proceedings could result if this confidentiality is breached. This should be explained to the person and they must sign the undertaking" (Home Office, 2011, p16).
If the person is unwilling to sign the undertaking, the police must consider whether the disclosure should still take place.

Under those rules then, the OP probably wouldn't be given the information. I seem to recall her children are adults, so it wouldn't be for the purpose of safeguarding children, just that she wants to know.

OP, the others are right, this is for the police to handle.
  • Slashing tyres and graffiti - that's criminal damage. As a resident you should report that as antisocial behaviour.

It's really amazing how hysterical people become about the mention of p!!!dophiles yet don't think anything of the greater dangers of, say, pizza and chips every night, cycling out on the roads with no lights or helmet etc.

Normal stuff poses much more of a threat than 'stranger danger'.

OP, why do you need to know about your neighbour anyway? Even if he is a convicted p!!!do - you wouldn't be handing him any kids would you?

You should be more worried about the danger of living n a neighbourhood where it's normal to let someone get harassed and have their property damaged with no one seeming to care.

Thanks. The leaflets don't mention the man's name, just the man living at the address which is named.

The man has told another neighbour that he has called the police but there hasn't been any sign of police attending and the man hasn't been seen by anyone except this one neighbour.

Yes, the elderly mum has lived at the address for a long time.

And as I said, we don't know the man's name so can't google it.
  • If the claims are true then I agree you have a right to know, but whoever did that to the house is a disgusting human being. I'd have reported the damage.
  • Why do you *need* to know?

If the man is what the leaflet says he is I will avoid him and make sure my grandkids, who all visit and stay regularly, do the same.

That's why I need to know. If he is, then he's a danger to children and I will most certainly protect my own from him. There are a lot of young children in the road whose parents also feel the need to know if this man is indeed a !!!!!phile, and if so will keep their kids well away from him.

So if you hadn't received this letter you would be OK in allowing your grandchildren to be around an adult male new to the area that you know absolutely nothing about?

Sounds like vigilantes to me. You're obviously not going to let someone you don't know have that close access to your grandchildren, anyway, but I think in your position I'd do a bit of digging and try and find out the guy's name and google it.

I'm sure that situation is of concern to parents, don't you feel concentrating on one possible is easing the pressure on another?

There was an incident in the next suburb where a house was burnt down killing the victim, the intended target had lept out of the window.
Sadly these people do not walk around advertising who they are.

Oh come on... standard common sense would say don't let a stranger have unsupervised access to your grandchildren.

Let's face it, you want to know the gossip - plain and simple.
