I'm looking to start a new tradition of getting a new board game to play with the family each Christmas. Something enjoyable for kids and adults alike.
Which go down best in your household? Would love to get some ideas as to what you're favourites are. Have quite a few of the originals so would like to try something new.

To be honest, I just wanted the opinion of some of the people on the forum.0 -
Ooh I love board games!
I don't have any kids so have less experience with what they would enjoy/what would be suitable for them but I suppose it depends on their ages.
For older kids/adults I'd highly recommend Articulate, it's a lot of fun as well as games like Cranium (I think there's a junior version of this as well), rapidough, The Logo board game. I also enjoy the Scene It DVD based board games - they are played on a board with dice but the questions/puzzles are done through the DVD player. There are different varieties, some of which would be suitable for kids as well like the Disney one but there's also Harry Potter, Friends, Glee, comedy movies, the original one (general movies), Star Trek etc.
Good luck in your search and let us know what you decide to go for!0 -

Depends on ages of the children who will join in, but Monopoly is a favourite of mine. Some children can get bored if you play it out to the end, but when mine were small, I used to set a half hour timer, and at the end of the half hour, whoever had the most - wonWith love, POSR0

Although not a board game, we love dominoes, young and old enjoy it.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
My stepdad would always "borrow" a flip-chart pad from work and hang it off the back of a door and we would play pictionary!
We played homemade bingo one year. At the time my sister and I both worked in a bingo hall so it felt more like work :rotfl:
One of my absolute favourite games is scattegories. Some of the categories are difficult but we would put silly answers in (my mum is the worst for this!) and we would all have a massive giggle.
I can't wait to do it this year! Our Rainbow Twins born 17th April 2016

Our dds are 13 & 6, and our fav board games are monopoly, pictureka and chess (does that count?)
I have got battle ships and game of life put away ready for this christmas - got them half price in the January sales! We love to sit on a cold winters evening with hot chocolate, either playing a board game or doing a jigsaw!

we've got lots of silly ones - buckaroo, hungry hippos, operation etc the adults were more obsessed with winning hungry hippos than my nephew!!! lol
when i was little, we used to play a game with dice, a packet of polos, knife and fork, scarf gloves and hat. put the full packet of polos unopened on a plate on a table or chair in the middle of the room. knife and fork at the side, and have a hat, scarf and gloves next to it.
have 2 dice going round the room. everyone gets 1 shake per go. if you get any number but a 6 you pass it on to the next person. If you get a 6, shout "6" and run to the plate. put the hat on, scarf on, gloves on, pick up the knife and fork and then try and get a polo out and eat it. But, if someone else shouts "6" in the meantime, its their go and you have to take them all off and go back to your spot. If there is a lot of you playing it, it becomes hilarious, especially when youve just put the hat on and someone else shouts "6" so you take it off, and by the time theyve put it on, someone else has shouted as well. The aim of the game is the first one to eat a polo, only using the knife and fork wins. I used to play it every Xmas, it went on for hours sometimes but i never laughed so much in my life!! very cheap game to play!! :rotfl:You're so very special, I wish I was special :dance:0
