Can I Ignore Parking Eye?

Hi,

I have just received a PCN issued by Parking Eye for overstaying in a Morrison's car park located in Scotland. Can i ignore this notice or do i have to contact them to appeal?

Many thanks

  • If you live in Scotland you can safely ignore them.

In Scotland you can safely ignore private parking tickets as long as you don't indicate to the PPC who the driver was.

But be aware that PE do target 'ignorers' in England and Wales and do ultimately issue county court papers via the Northampton County Court bulk handling centre that do need to be dealt with. They issue these literally in their thousands. There's always the possibility, given the industrial scale of issuing these, that ignorers in Scotland could receive such.

Whilst the above papers will have no legitimacy in Scotland you just need to be aware they might drop through your letterbox - come back to us if you receive any.

Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

  • Ok thanks I'll bear that in mind. I didn't even think to look for signs advising of a time limit as it was a supermarket car park. Since it is free to park how can they impose a fine if they have suffered no financial loss?
  • It is a valid BS business ;) That seeks to take advantage of the knowledge that people are blind to signs unless they are pointed out to them.

  • It seems so immoral that companies are making millions out of misleading people into thinking they are legally obliged to pay these "fines". And what is more disappointing for me is a major supermarket contracting these cowboys to do their dirty work for them. Goodbye Morrisons you won't have the pleasure of issuing me with another one of these since my car won't be in any of your car parks (or petrol stations) again!

TQM - regardless of this fake invoice being issued in Scotland, we don't allow THAT word anywhere on this private parking lie forum:D

Only police, Councils and London Transport can issue fines for parking events.

  • Haha!! Yes i'm not surprised that word is banned from this forum given the number of people affected by these cowards. My initial reaction on opening the letter was to pay it immediately however decided to dig around here to see if it was legally enforceable. Glad i did as i didn't realise just how widespread this problem is.

Also what roused my suspicions was the amateurish letter - looks like a black and white photocopy with no legal jargon. So long as there is no comeback i will ignore any further correspondence.

    Thanks for all the advice

........the only salient point being it is NOT a 'fine', LEGALLY.

  • Would it be better to phone them and advise them I won't be paying it as i now know it is not legally enforceable?
