Thanks to everyone, its all a lot clearer now. However, just to confirm - you do have to lose all your cookies - there is no way to be selective?

Not sure why you're so attached to your cookies (!), but you can delete them selectively if you like. If you have Windows XP, go to C:\Documents and Settings\I]your username[/I\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files and you'll see cookies and other temp. files listed.

I'm really sorry, abr, you must be gutted. Sometimes antivirus and antispyware can be a bit over-efficient. I'd recommend signing up for www.topcashback.co.uk then using their tracking test to see if that might be the case with you.

  • When we say that the money from cashback sites is "free" is this misleading?

While it's tempting to treat cashback as a discount on a product or service purchased, this logic wouldn't apply in those instances when the cashback exceeds any money paid (e.g. signing up for a bank account or when getting paid to click through to shopbot sites without necessarily making a purchase). In that case, maybe the "discount" reasoning isn't perfect for more straightforward offers (e.g. "8% off wines") either. It's looking to me a lot like what we earn from cashback sites is income of some sort (earned? unearned?) and therefore potentially liable for tax?
