Using cashback sites

I've been reading other MoneySavers' posts about cashback sites such as quidco (to name but one), so I went to have a look at the site today. It sounds good, and I've read a small number of bad reviews on Pete's ImAFish Blog (you can Google it).

However, the majority of posters who commented on his blog about quidco were positive - it's a shame a few have had a bad experience.

I'd like to know if it'd be a good idea to sign up with a few of these services and then earn as much as I can from each of them and put the money to good use?

(Probably a stupid question, but the only stupid question I know of is the one that is never asked. ;))

    I only use Quidco,

I was dubious when I signed up 7 months ago,

Since then I have used it many times, and always check to see if I can use it before shopping

I have both my cars and house insurance thru it, and ended up after cashback paying a total of £120 for 2 Cars and 1 Buildings & 1 Contents Insurance (Cost me £800 + Last year)

Currently I have been paid out £625 in the last 7 months with another £200 or so due in the next 2 months (Just been hitt ing the Gala Bingo at £30 a time!!)

SO I WOULD 110% Recommend it to anyone

I use Quidco and Pigsback, though in the majority I stick with Quidco.

I have only had one refused cashback through Quidco (and several hundred pounds go through ok), and that was clearly down to the retailer.

    No harm in signing up.

    Hi,

Thought you would like to know my experience with Quidco.

I was a bit dubious to begin with as well.

It can be annoying when transactions don't track and customer services isnt fantastic, but if you delete your cookies, it is well worth doing.

I started in Fec this year and by just doing a few things like renewing car insurances and home insurances I have earned almost £600.00.

Try to use the sureshop merchants if you can and remember to delete your cookies!
  • I have been using quidco for about a year and have saved a bundle. I only have one transaction not tracked and quidco have sent it to the merchant. I only buy things that are actually less than what I would have paid. For instance my car insurance was about £30 cheaper through quidco even if I didn't get the cashback ( though I have) so if you can look at it that way, as a bonus, you won't go far wrong.

I'm currently at £157 on Topcashback (my favoured one these days) and £383 on Quidco.

I used to use Greasypalm, and have racked up £215 with them but they aren't competitive any more - I think they take a lot of potential earnings from you.

As above, house insurance, car insurance and holidays have all been booked through them over a couple of years - and essentially that is "lost " money I wouldn't have had if I'd have just gone and bought those things.

However, admittedly a fair bit of it is through Casino/Bingo type sites - but I only ever go for the ones that give me more cashback than I spend - most don't do that anymore alas :(

Goodluck, and you won't believe how much you use them once registered - they become a "must check for cashback" before every click :)

Hi, I use Quidco, and on the whole I'm happy with the results. I do make comparisons to get the product/service at the cheapest price (kelkoo 10p cashback), and then the sites' cashback makes it sweeter! I've had 2 referrals not pay, but fortunately they weren't much, and yes, customer service was non-existent. I'm not renewing insurances yet (ie big paybacks), but did get £45 for my last car insurance (and the rate was cheaper). My first purchase was a phone for my wife on Virgin via another MSE post (£25 "down" to 99p). We don't shop in this area as much as other MSE-ers, but I've easily racked up about £120 in cashback in a year. I don't look at this as a revenue earner, since I know I'd spend more, but I do maximise the savings/discounts.

I recommend them! Although I'll now have a look at Topcashback

Another Quidco user here. My problem is that I sometimes forget to use it
I've earned about £50 this year from them, but it probably should be a lot more if I remember to see if the website/company is on Quido BEFORE I purchase anything!

Quidco themselves have been fine. No negatives. It's money for nothing as far as I can see.

I just had my first successful quidco track :) yay expedia.

But I screwed one up for myself that was worth £60 by not reading the instructions properly. my advice would be def to have a seperate browser for quidco (firefox if you normally use explorer or vice versa) and only go into it once you know what you're going to buy. That way the cookies issue is sorted. And of course only buy stuff you're gonna buy anyway!!

People aren't using greasypalm any more because they are incredibly slow at paying cashback (I've been waiting more than six months for a Holiday Extras cashback!!), as a result the money coming in goes down, there is less to pay cashback so they have to delay things further etc etc and the cycle goes on until the whole thing grinds to a halt, and goes down the gurgler which means that those still waiting for cashback if/when it closes get nothing. If people only use cashback schemes that pay promptly then the unscrupulous operators will disappear.

I use quidco and they are pretty good, but have just discovered that greasypalm do a thing you can install which will flash up if you try and go direct to a retailer that they deal with. I have installed this, and it helps remind me to use a cashback site - so then I load quidco and go through that! (For those of us with problems remembering their own name). Of course quidco don't do all the same retailers, but its still a useful memory jogger. HTH
