You may not be able to do it,
many banks have a limit of around £1k a day unless you have made prior arrangement with them (Assuming you are talking about cash of course)Over 100k miles of Electric Motoring and rising,0 -

Why cant i access MY hard earned money.0 -
take id just in case and call them beforehand so they know you are coming and have the cash ready0

Most high street banks require 24 hours notice on amounts over £1k in Cash, (Halifax and others its 48 hours)
There are several reasons 1 being availability of funds in branch. also additional fraud checks take place in the background.Over 100k miles of Electric Motoring and rising,0 -
OK i will phone them first thing tomorrow ....
.....ofcourse i expect the bank to have that much amount, how can you compare me an ordinary person to a financial institution ?
I am not a bank, my house is not a bank where people come and collect money whereas a bank is a bank!!0 -

I see, so they probably do other checks to find out if i am the account holder?
i will then try and get it on saturday as i really want this car for an event on sunday.
thanks for your help and everyone else0 -
Good luck tomorrow, hope they are able to help you,
you have to remember they work on averages, and the "average transaction" is a lot lower than £5000 (About £110 per Transaction I think the official figure). Hence they only keep on site cash to cover this plus a % extra, also taking other factors like month end and paydays / holiday weekends into account
But I agree with you its inconvenient to get stuck with no access to your Cash,
I bought a Kia Picanto Car 1 week old for £4k ish a few months ago, and had not arranged with Halifax in advance they would not budge on the £1k rule, so I had to take a bankers draft which the buyer did not really want and the bank charged me £10 for the privilidge
Hope you have luck and the car is a good one.
Cheers

regarding the average, well its £100 but that is for ATM withdrawals not money thats taken inside the branch!
and i dislike banks charging you for a bankers draft, i guess they want everyone to stick to cheques as its better for them!.
I shall give them a ring tomorrow and pop in to see if its OK, if not i will try my best for them to get it ready on saturday.
i will come back here if it went OK0 -
Maybe too late for the OP but if you have the funds in your current account, then you could pay for the car with a debit card - worked for me with about £15KEthical moneysaver0

I've withdrawn £3600 in cash without prior arrangement before at a branch of Clydesdale Bank. Not a large branch either.0
