Hotel conundrum

Probably the wrong sub-forum, but there is a decent cross-section of people in this one, so:
I booked a hotel for a night this weekend, a few months ago. There were no single rooms available so went with a double.
Subsequently, I have acquired a +1 who wishes to join me for the weekend.
Question: Do I phone the hotel and update the booking for 2 people, risking a surcharge (it was already a bit rich....) or just sneak them in and forget about it.
We're only going to need the room to get changed in and sleep in before & after a dinner/dance.
What would the consensus be?

ask your plus one? I'd be hacked off not getting breakfast, myself2021 GC £1365.71/ £24000

What type of hotel is it? A few times when booking a Travelodge, my OH has put 1 person and forgotten about me
there has never been a problem.
If it is a price per room with no breakfast included, I wouldn't worry. If it is bed & breakfast then I would contact the hotel as the other person may not get fed!!

Just pay for the second breakfast in the morning.
Might be worth ringing the hotel and asking them *if* you added a second person what would happen to the rate -it may be the same with just breakfast as extra (but cheaper than buying it seperately)I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
It's a 40 room hotel on a town high street, not one of the big chains. I can't see any reference to breakfast on my booking and doubt I would have added it out of choice.
I would add that the +1 and I are not exactly romantically involved and would be splitting the cost.0 -
Is it the sort of place where people can come in and pay for breakfast anyway if they haven't stopped the night? If so you could add your plus one then.
If it isn't is the surcharge to change the details on the room more than the cost of 2 of you eating breakfast elsewhere?0 -
Whilst you have a double u would need to let them know - thinking ins purposes otherwise they may think you pulled and taking a chance at sneaking the person in ... Xxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0

I'm not sure even if there would be any extra charge, but am reluctant to inquire incase they try to slap on some extra charges.
I have done a trial with expedia, searching for a room at this place at another date for single & double occupancy of the same room and the price remains the same. So, I might just be getting my knickers in a twist over nothing.0 -
If a fire breaks out, they won't know there is a 2nd person in your room to be looked for.I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0

shouldn't you change the double for a twin room, or are you on a promise? The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
Er ... what else do most people use a hotel room for then? Isn't it to get changed, go out to do something, return, sleep?SanguineSteve wrote: »... booked a hotel for a night this weekend ... We're only going to need the room to get changed in and sleep in before & after a dinner/dance.0
