Hi, this is the Daily Thread for today. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Good Morning xx
Up with Poppy Dog - I can't complain as she never ever wakes us up unless we sleep past 7am - then she bangs on the door with her paw:rotfl: OH let her lick the plate and it had a tomato sauce on - it upsets her tummy (he has done it before). He is now snoring his head off - as I said before he has an immense talent for sleeping through night-time dramas and I usually rely on one of my children if I need help in the night - usually DD and DS2!

Anyway DD back to uni now:T:T:T
Hester - hope your DD has her baby quickly and smoothly.
NMLC - can sympathise re Occupational Health. I had to go through it too and it is just protocol not personal. Grin and bear it:)

Right away to drink my tea and browse the boards and rub poor Poppy's tummy x
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

  • Good morning Molly and all who cross/follow :)

The horrible medicine enabled a solid 7 hours sleep, well almost, I think I turned over once and coughed but did not have to get up. So that makes me feel better but as soon as I get out of bed, of course I start coughing again and DH is still coughing and he has been ill for 5 days longer than me :(

Sorry about moaning, it just really gets me down.

Nothing much O/S going on and DD still hasn't received her student loan. All it takes is one person to tick a box to say she is registered and attending lectures/practicals and the one person thinks he is too important to do that. Anyway he emailed her yesterday to say he needed to see her, so she responded she couldn't afford to get there as no-one had registered her, so student finance wouldn't release her money. So let's see what happens now.

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day.

  • Morning all
Molly, lovely to see you posting I hope Poppy's tum settles soon.
TTFM I hope you & hubby are both feeling better soon.
Hugs to anyone else in need especially LW who doesn't like having men in, well kitchen fitters anyway.
Got home from work yesterday expecting to chill out until hubby needed to be collected but ended up rushing into town to get DGD a new cup as she'd lost hers.
DD is going into hospital at 7:30 this morning, fingers crossed it all goes ok & goes quickly. SIL is dropping their older 2 at school & then dropping the youngest with my hubby, I'll take over when he starts work.
Talk about skin of your teeth job, I gave DD my car as her 7 seater was off the road, but mine isn't big enough once new baby is here, my youngest DS & a mate decided last week to get her old car running for her, they finished it at 6:30 last night & I took her & the children to collect it. When I got to her house she had a pile of pink clothes & a pile of blue clothes waiting to go in the baby drawers, she's taking white & lemon into hospital with her.
Hubby went to the podiat, podait, foot clinic yesterday, he is having his 2 big toe nails removed in mid October, I have to learn how to dress them once the procedure is done. Two days after hubby's toes are done I have an eye appointment & will be booking surgery, it's going to be a busy time.
Time I got ready & set off.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.

[FONT=Verdana, sans-serif]I was attacked by a chicken yesterday :D One of the oldies wouldn't let the newbies in the shed at bedtime so I went down to sort them out. Managed to get them all in eventually then one of the bantams got spooked. HH - Hope you can see well enough to dress OHs toes!
TTFTM - Glad you got a good night's sleep, maybe OH should see a doctor if it's been going on so long.
Molly, good to see you, hope Poppy dog is ok.

Not much to report, just going to see if I can finish painting the walls (only 2 small ones to do) before I go to work, I was still painting at 10.30 last night. Still, needs must!

Hugs to all, see you later. Take care. XX

  • Morning all :)
I haven't caught up with yesterday's posts yet but hugs to all in need xx

Ttftm- I do hope u and DH are on the mend soon
Hester- I hope dd baby comes quickly and easily
Tru- poor you and poor chicken too! I hope they have the pecking order sorted.
Molly- I hope Poppy's tumtum settles

Well I used my new oven yesterday and burnt half the dinner. I didn't realise when I ordered it that it didn't have a fan in it - I didn't even know they still made ovens like that! The instructions say to only use one shelf or else it cooks unevenly, well who only uses one shelf in an oven for goodness sake? I will have to keep swapping trays midway through cooking, but I'm not impressed

Dd off feeling sick today. It started yesterday and I'm sure it's down to her bad diet. She refuses to eat properly and I don't know what to do. I can't force her to eat! All she lives on is sweets, crisps, meat and the odd apple. I've tried starving her out but she will just let herself starve. It is very frustrating.

I hope everyone has a good day. I'm waiting to see what happens with Scotland....

Hugs to all poorlies and anyone who just needs one xx

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light, cloudy, dull and very overcast.

DH up and gone to work early but not stupid early. DS1 gone to work.

Dinner last night was sausages, mash, veg and gravy, doughnuts for those that wanted them. Tonight we will be having haggis, mash, veg and gravy. I have an on-line shopping order coming this afternoon.

Visit from boss went ok, she brought a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a card from my colleagues, so that has cheered me up. She has also brought me up to speed on all the info that I need to know and announcements from work that I have missed. 4 more restructures, with loss of jobs, thankfully doesn’t include my grade of workers but my boss’s job and the other manager is being deleted. But, of course, we will be looked at again at some point in the future. I will also be having a visit from the department Manager and someone from HR – but it’s in the sickness policy that they do this but I have to give my permission that I’m happy for them to come to my home – I don’t know what happens if you say “no”! I don’t have any issues with them coming to my home, I’m genuinely off sick, a sick note and my leg in plaster with toes that are still black/purple with bruising and on crutches should be a good indicator – the hospital wouldn’t go to the expense of doing all this if it wasn’t needed.

DS1 came home from work yesterday with his first wage slip, as his wages go direct in to his bank on a Thursday, he was so pleased and he seems to be settling down ok and seems quite happy.

Both boys went to the SM for me yesterday when they got home, they just picked up a fresh loaf of bread and I’d said to get some cakes/doughnuts – not very OS I know but I can’t make them at the moment. They came back with the bread and some doughnuts, but DS1 said I got apple doughnuts and some iced ones, I didn’t pick the other sort of doughnuts as there was about 50 packets sitting there and no-one was buying them – when I asked what sort they were, they were “cola” flavoured – certainly not to our taste and due to the fact they don’t appear to be selling – not many other peoples either!

Got my normal bill paying bits done yesterday. DH gets paid on a Friday and so on Saturday DS1 will go into town and take DH’s cheque to be put into the bank and he can go to his own and check that his money has gone in ok. We’ve been saying to him that it would be a good idea to set up a standing order between his current account and his savings so that he has some regular money going into his savings – he’s not really a spender – he likes having money in his wallet and money in his bank – so hoping he’s not going to waste his wages.

    Take care x

    Keep safe and well x

    Good morning,

Not been on for the last couple of days, minded DGS all day Tuesday, then DGD ended staying the night so I had her yesterday morning and had to take her to preschool after lunch, her mum wanted to get some things sorted for her 3rd birthday and party next week.We went up on the bus its only 10 mins but she thought that was great ;) She went in without a qualm, quite often cries when Mummy takes her so I was very proud.I love spending 1:1 time with her but its quite rare it happens.

I have to go into town today to get some more keys cut for the renovation house, the roofer hopefuly is going to make a start tomorrow so we need more than 1 set.
I've had quite a bit of free food recently-where DH is working they have an old orchard and he's been told to help himself :T,so we've had apples, eaters and bakers and some damsons which I made into damson vodka & gin,and a crumble with the last few along with some apples. There are still plenty blackberries and elderberries round here, cant decide whether to get more,I am meant to be running the chest freezer down as we wont have room for it when we move :( but that wont be for months yet ;).

Good luck to DD HH hope all goes well.
Have a good day everybody x

  • Morning all,

Very grey here today, I hope it brightens up later I have some washing to go out.

Not a lot planned today, have to collect our meds from the chemist, and stock up on fruit and veg. We have a very good greengrocer near to our chemist, and so much cheaper than the SM.

Popping to see DD and have a coffee with her, and then plan on a tidy in our little bedroom. I use it as my ironing room, and the grandchildren sometimes use the old computer up there. It is also a dumping ground and I don't like that so it will be sorted today.

Hugs to all poorlies and hope Poppy's tummy is feeling better now. Animals put so much trust in us and they don't understand when they are not well. I know how she feels though, there are certain things, as I have become older, that I can no longer eat and no one told me that might happen.

  • Good Morning everyone, grey skies here too today but still unseasonably warm which is making sleeping difficult.

MOLLY I hope that Molly puppys tum settles down quickly and she's back to normal by this evening.

I had such a lovely stay with my Zebra child but have walked back into a messy house, men just don't do tidy do they? I've a full bin of washing to deal with and need to dust and vacuum all over the house, and I'll never understand why men can't fold up thier clothes but think it's fine to drop them where they are removed and then leave them there and put on clean ones!!! It's a mystery!!!

The garden seems to be full of ripe tomatoes so I'll make some tomato puree today to put into the freezer as I've invested in a silicone ice cube tray that will make freezing the puree much easier.

Hope all the poorlies are on the mend and that life is kind to each and every one of us today, Lyn xxx.
