I kept referring to HB LHA etc but it's actually SMI.

Right, so no worries about a reduction of HB due to NDDs as she doesn't get it.

AFAIK, SMI is awarded solely on the benefits received by the homeowner and not influenced by the income of other occupants.

So that only leaves at most a modest decrease in council tax benefit which apparently her entitlement to PIP rules out despite a household income of anything above at least £500 a week from combined employment, student and benefit income with low or no housing related costs due to full CT entitlement and the interest paid by SMI.

So what benefits are the the DWP apparently capping?
  • They didn't say they just said I probably would.
  • I'm planning on saving as much as I can just incase I can't claim ESA whilst doing my final year. It'd be too hard to do both, especially with my CP getting worse over time. Does this sound like a good plan!?
  • The DWP said her child tax credits may be affected. They also said I may be able to get them, don't see how since I'm on a student placement.
  • They are but on a salary placement basis

Hi I strongly advise that you get all the paperwork together and book a session with your University Welfare advisor. They should be used to students living in families and receiving benefits etc.

If you are in your 20s, then your mother will not be in receipt of child benefit for you, although she will still be entitled to child benefit for your sibling who is still in f/t education at age 16.
  • I've got siblings who are of school age.
