Why a 0% Acceptance Chance on Amex Platinum Everyday?

Hi all,

I've just completed the Credit Card Eligibility Checker for the Amex Platinum Everyday and I pass all of Amex's criteria listed on their website:

I am aged 18 or over (I'm 23)
I have a current UK bank or building society account (Main back is with Halifax)
I have a permanent UK home address (Live at home with my parents)
I have a household income of at least £20,000 (significantly more than this)
I have no history of bad debt (Correct)
And if self-employed, I have been working for more than one year (Employed Full time for 14 months)

However, The eligibility checker is giving me a 0% chance of being accepted, does anyone know why this is and I'm assuming if the checker says no, I shouldn't risk a full application?

Thanks,
Joe

  • I'm in similar circumstances to you (though slightly older at 25) The eligibility checker says I won't get accepted even though I've had one for about 4 months now :p

Might still be worth a go!

Employed or self employed? You say you're both.

Thanks for sharing the other thread - You say the checker bare little/no resemblance to the real credit check when applying - Do you think it's worth the risk in applying and not getting accepted (a potential bad mark?)

Does the checker here actually check anything to do with my real credit score and history?

I don't say I'm both - I'm in full-time employment (The sentence before the brackets is from the AMEX website).

Yes - I had a zero percent chance and was accepted.

And if you want me to send you a referral we can both benefit from an additional £25 cashback ( though first check you can't get yourself a better deal via Quidco or TopCashBack ).

No black mark will be recorded.

A search will be noted on your file. Nothing more, nothing less.

Thanks! I actually applied last night through TopCashBack unfortunately!

However, I was successful - No problems whatsoever!

So I guess the eligibility thing on here is either broken or a load of rubbish!

    Thanks for the advice everyone.

As you will see from the other thread there was a disagreement on the accuracy of these checkers (and even how many different checkers there are behind the scenes). It doesnt take rocket science to work out if you have 6 unsatisfied CCJs that a prime lender wont be touching you. It is more questionable how much input each lender has had in creating the formula and if you were very cynical you may think that the system would give a higher percentage chance of acceptance to the card that pays them the larger referral fee.

You do not get a bad mark for apply for and not getting a card. All the CRA file shows is an application for credit, it never directly shows the outcome. What is bad is to have a lot of applications for credit in a short period of time as it looks like you are desperate/ in financial distress. Generally having a couple in a rolling 6 month period is fine. Having more than that and it may start having negative impacts.
