I was thinking about exchanging the cash now before i go on trip and whilst im there have a relative send me the money in batches?
Checked royal mail they can't send cash over securely and i only found one write up on moneysavingexpert transferring english currency via bank to another country.
Any advice with this?

Just get a fee free card or two. Why the drama?
Halifax Clarity for withdrawals and purchases. Kalixa Pay(using a discount promo code) as a backup.
If you need a larger amount than can be drawn via the ATM, you can use the likes of CurrencyFair and TransferWise0 -

Im missing something about Kalixa. It looks better than Halifax Clarity. Whats the negatives of using this card over the halifax exactly?
Edit: Looks like lower exhange rateOne years target for mortgage deposit:

There are probably hundreds of threads about transferring money between countries, I suggest you look a bit harder (currency broker as a search term may help).
I don't really know anything about Kalixa but I'm not sure how it could be any better than the Clarity card as that is effectively free to use if managed properly.0 -

I suggest you read my post properly. I already have the aus dollar i wanted to post it to oz avoiding any currency exchange fees etc. Since OZ doesn't allow money via post that plans binned.

Looking at this it states 12.9% - 21.95% regardless if i pay it in on time. If im wrong id be grateful if someone corrected me.One years target for mortgage deposit:

A far as purchases go, you are wrong. No interest if you pay on time. Cash will attract interest but if you pay off asap, it will be pennies even if you get lumped with the highest rate.0 -
I suggest you write your posts properly, and stop contradicting yourself. In your first post you said "I was thinking about exchanging the cash now" and now you say "I already have the aus dollar ". So which is it?I suggest you read my post properly. You realise that's an annual interest rate don't you? You'll pay a tiny fraction of that if you pay it off quickly, maybe 0.5% if you pay it after a couple of weeks, and nothing for purchases if you pay the statement in full.http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/overseas-card-charges

Whereas if you change cash on the high street you'll pay about 5% or more in commission. Don't believe "commission free" bull - the commission is hidden in the rate, whereas the commission in the Clarity (Mastercard) rate is tiny - maybe 0.1% or less.0 -

The exchange rate is exactly the same for both. To be found here
The cost for purchases is exactly the same. Nil(as long as you pay the Clarity statement amount in full)
The difference is in the cost of ATM cash withdrawals. Kalixa charge a flat fee of £2.25, but if you pull out the max(£300), that's a total cost of 0.75%.
Clarity doesn't charge a fixed fee, but it charges interest. So the quicker you clear your balance, the better for you.
So to have both is a good idea. If you lose one, you have a backup.0 -

There's little point in commenting further given that other posters have already exposed the fallacy of your first point, and it's clear that you need to get your head around the way card interest works. So I won't

How much money are you talking about? Just take it with you, or are you worried it will burn a hole in your pocket & you will spend it all before your trip ends? If you really want to send money securely your best best it to make a bank transfer to your relative's bank account but that will cost you too (£25 flat fee the last time we sent some to our expat son in Oz).0
