relocation - relocating would force me into this position for another two years, I do car share but that is a major issue (try being stuck in a car being told all of your weaknesses in front of your peers for an hour.)

Give it back "if you wern't such a !!!! boss we would all be doing better you do nothing but...............

Stop including the boss a lift shares.

Due to some choice decisions before I took the job, driving myself is not an option (limited mileage policy) of the four of us, one can't drive due to a medical condition and another proven to be so unreliable that it just didn't work.

It is the boss that is actually in the driving seat.

Understandably I had started to look for another car something cheap that would get me to work and back, it would be costly (3k in petrol, say 600 in the can 400 insurance) but I would have my piece of mind.

Then option 2 came up and I made this tread.

As far as giving it back, I am under my two years, and the company is a hire and fire ordeal. With my boss 'irreplaceable' and his boss absent, I can only give so much back.

Can you give an idea of the jobs? To me option 2 sounds sales/pre sales type roles perhaps in a technical industry, whereas option 1 is the technical aspect and the demands of keeping things running 24/7.

We could perhaps help more if we understand the roles (within privacy obviously) but it's hard to comment without knowing what option 2 really isc

About £11,000 over anything else I could earn (aside option 2) about £13,000 moire than other roles that don't require travel.

hmmm - option 2 is ticking nearly all the boxes isn't it. You know the environment / industry, you know the new boss, you are well-covered with savings as backup, you are ready for a move, and your current boss is an idiot.
The only things holding you back seem to be an innate sense of responsibility to your family, and the fear of the unknown that affects almost all of us.

Very astute, yes that is the case.
Option 2 has an opportunity to build my own team running the UK operations.

I would say take it for work life balance if

    A) you are in control if your diary and client meetings.
    B) you are prepared to work irregular hours. Ie put children to bed then do a bit of paperwork especially if dealing with none uk time scales.
    C) you have an input in all the new team. Be this technical authors, bid managers, solutions architects or techies.
    D) get on with new boss
    E) client needs/SLA's you have input in.

Not sure of your exact industry but my husband (I think) does a similar role. He did it for 1 company and it didn't work as the above weren't in place, he lasted 14 months of frustration before they collapsed.

He now does the same job for a none UK based company but the above is in place. He works from home, flexibly - though long hours overall when you consider days travel is needed, but no operational stress, ability to create good practices and implement properly in operations, define best use of technology.

He doesn't regret the gamble one bit and is now on a very high salary with work life balance and I get to make him do the school run when it rains :rotfl:

If building a team you can always cherry pick from your current place

10k difference is big when on £25k but worth a lot less on £45k.

unless you plough as much of the 40% band into your pension as possible, then it is worth every penny
