    Nope

    I know what I said

    I did not ask for a legal answer - I asked for *a fact* as opposed to *an opinion*

    I teach youngsters to write 4 *facts* about a company

    They're not solicitors!!!!!

    Maybe you need to check the difference between *a fact* and an *opinion* if you think solicitors need to be involved lol

    Rubbish

    "Robin Williams died a few weeks back" is a FACT

    It is not beyond children to state that, and it is comfortably within the scope of most forum members without involving a solicitor :)

    Actually I decided to adopt that as my sig - only those who know what *a fact* is need reply to my posts :D

    I rather fancy the attitude may limit further replies that you deem useful.
    In the circumstances you might be better to do your own research and make your own mind up.
    The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

    I suspect you re right but I would rather have no replies than a barrage of opinions (or 'hunches') from the clueless

  • As a Post Office worker, I have a hunch that it could well be your attitude when dealing with PO staff that is causing you problems. Just my opinion of course ;)

    Describe the coins as collectable coins, not legal tender. Print this if needed. http://www.royalmail.com/personal/help-and-support/I-need-advice-about-sending-money-and-jewellery
    Collectable coins are, presumably, the same as coins used for ornament which, by that link, are classed as jewelry and so need to be sent special delivery.

    You can send money by ordinary first or second class post, or Recorded Delivery, but it won't be covered for any compensation. Although you are not technically sending money, rather than get into an argument about what the item does and does not contain, simply make your intentions very clear: "Good morning, I would like to send this item by Recorded Delivery. It contains collectable coins. I am aware that it is not covered for compensation unless sent via Special Delivery, but I am happy to take the risk"

    Note that any advice from Royal Mail says that the items should be sent by Special Delivery rather than must be sent by Special Delivery.

    I would interpret that link to mean that coins used for ornament are classed as jewellery but only of those coins are made of precious metal, ie, turning a Sovereign into a ring. Base metal coins aren't generally used as ornaments.
    any precious metal that has been manufactured in such a way as to add value to the raw material, including coins used for ornament;
    • diamonds and precious stones;
    • watches -
    the cases of which are made wholly or mainly of precious metal;
    • similar articles with an intrinsic value other than the value of the workmanship.

    It would only be an offence if you tried to make a claim against the contents knowing that the item isn't covered, but you said it was something that is, this would be fraud.
