Is it actually "an offence" to mis-describe contents of letter

I need to sell 62424t36278466242662 million antique coins
Everytime I try to post one I get the 3rd degree from the royal mail Gestapo because its "money"
1/ I would challenge that on the grounds that when RM defined "money" in the first instance, they were talking about "legal tender" (not out of circulation coins which could be worth 1p to £1000000 and could be described as "medals" or "tokens")
2/ I tried describing them as "medals" (which some are) but the Gestapo said "jewellery" is classified
Decided to say they are ""buttons"
I am posting "2nd class signed for" which is insured up to £50
So my question is:
Is it actually "an offence" to mis-describe contents of letter, OR is it just for insurance purposes?
= I understand i will lose any claim
= that's my responsibility and not a concern for the RM Gestapo teller
PS - not interested in "opinions" - I already have one and I'm too busy working - I'm only interested in *facts* from people that *know* the answer

You don't get definitive advice on an internet forum.0

I am not asking for definitive "advice"
I am asking for "an answer" to "a question", and that can happen
The original response was correct. You specifically said

if you want a legal answer then pay a solicitor. Who are the "Gestapo". Post office counter staff?. Describe the coins as collectable coins, not legal tender. Print this if needed. http://www.royalmail.com/personal/help-and-support/I-need-advice-about-sending-money-and-jewellery
If you want facts ask the Royal Mail.0 -
My opinion is that you could almost definitely possibly be committing an offense or possibly not as the case maybe, notwithstanding the aforesaid, but it depends.Warning: any unnecessary disclaimers appearing under my posts do not bear any connection with reality, either intended, accidental or otherwise. Your statutory rights are not affected.0

Completely agree, except in those cases where it isn't but possibly is.0 -
Yes, it's an offence.
Section 89 onwards of the Postal Services Act 2000.

What they'd actually do to you is probably squit all mind....0 -
What's the point paying for recorded if you know you can't claim ? Since the items are low value you'd be better of just adding something like 30p to the postage instead of the £1 extra you're paying royal mail. Anyway, my advice is don't waste your time with the post office, just stick it in a post box with a stamp.0

NopeYou specifically said
I know what I said

I did not ask for a legal answer - I asked for *a fact* as opposed to *an opinion*
I teach youngsters to write 4 *facts* about a company
They're not solicitors!!!!!
Maybe you need to check the difference between *a fact* and an *opinion* if you think solicitors need to be involved lolAnything here by any of us, whatever we claim to be, will be an opinion.
Rubbish
"Robin Williams died a few weeks back" is a FACT
It is not beyond children to state that, and it is comfortably within the scope of most forum members without involving a solicitor
Actually I decided to adopt that as my sig - only those who know what *a fact* is need reply to my posts
