Vodafone data charges

Hey guys,

There's probably not a lot I can do about this, but here goes:

Our daughter has managed to create a data bill of over £300 in the last 2 months. Prior to this, the extra data costs were minimal. We have a contract with 3 phones, varying data plans and handsets. The one in question is a 250Mb contract, and the handset is an iPhone 4S. I know the allowance is small, but according to Vodafone, the data usage is in excess of 10Gb over the last 2 months. I have no problem with the data usage, it's just the cost of the excess. I've spoken to Vodafone, but they have said "tough". I've also reported the handset lost so no more charges can occur! I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to how to lower the charges as we're struggling at the moment and this is the last thing we need...

Thanks

Hope you have not asked to block the handset.
Reporting the sim lost would be more reasonable. Even simpler was just to switch the mobile data off.

Sell the phone and buy something simpler and cheaper that you can keep control over.

I don't think you're going to get the kind of answers you're hoping for. If Vodafone reduced the bills of every customer that asked, they wouldn't have much of a business. Was your daughter not aware of her monthly allowance?

You could try emailing their Web Relations team and asking them if they're willing to provide a one off discount as a gesture of goodwill because you're facing financial hardship, but don't be surprised if they say no. Contact instructions are under 'Biography' here.

If possible, cap your bills to avoid this problem in the future.
