Who to Preorder from these days?

Options
Who's the best to pre order games from these days? Ideally cheap and will deliver on or before release day...

The last game I preordered was GTA V which I bought through Tesco, but now they don't seem to guarantee to deliver on release day.

Amazon you appear to have to pay extra to guarantee release day.

Game seem more expensive..

Who do people use these days? I want to preorder FIFA 15, or will it just be easier to go to the shop on the way home from work?

These days I tend to be old and boring and wait 6 months after release to grab games at -50% on steam.... side effect of having less time to play these days ;p

What system on? You can buy from foreign marketplace/store on xbox and PS now and they are often much cheaper.

Simplygames.co.uk are very reliable and often get it to you early.

i think for the best chance of having it on release day and it not being too expensive then a supermarket is the way to go. it means going to a store rather than waiting for delivery though.

Shopto.net have been good for me in the past
  • If I really want a game on release day, I tend to pre order it in store (GAME or similar) and then pick it up on the day :)

I hear repeatedly that Simply are the new Shopto for getting boxed games to you on or before release day.

I hear that from other places, of course. "MSE" and "game pre-orders" don't exactly go hand-in-hand. ;)

GAME, personally. I'm collecting the points for future releases to make it cheaper, and I always prefer a hard, physical copy when it comes to console games given the way they 'install' these days and just use the disc for confirmation that you own the game, and I can pick it up on the day as it's 5 minutes from work.

Plus GAME seem to have retailer only offers on preorder, such as the Red Sparrow with Destiny, or four classes when Evolve is released etc. They had a skin I'd have liked for Destiny, shame I hate the Call of Duty series and wouldn't be seen dead pre-ordering it, let alone buying it, I can't be seen in a skin relating to a game I hate ;)

No they don't - full RRP for an Xbox 360 game is £49.99 on most games reaching £60 for triple A titles. If you've looked at the Marketplace you'll see what I mean when you still have massive prices for relatively old games. There's also the fact that you'll rarely see a standard edition in game, almost always an exclusive edition with extra content.

You're now seeing people like Activision & EA pushing their luck with RRP's knowing they have to recoup costs somehow - and that's pretty much where they can do it. As customers for the most part people don't know what the true price of the game is, as a customer who's been there I do and I also know through the grapevine what companies are charging right now. I have heard of late games with a unit price from supplier of over £30 - which is the point where you HAVE to sell it at £40-45 to even start to make profit. Easy enough to say retail makes it's money through the second hand market, but they're being stiffed by big boys spending money on making it all flash & no substance.
