Most big companies do have a department to report them to -

spoof@paypal.co.uk

stop-spoofing@amazon.com

internetsecurity@barclays.co.uk

reportphishing@apple.com

phishing@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk

You might think reporting it is useless as they keep coming but every one you receive will be a different attempt to the one before and as you report them so the security departments of the businesses concerned will start working to close them down so you are helping by reporting. I always report - some acknowledge, some don't but if I can help stop one vulnerable person being taken in then it's time well spent.

Thank you  I always report the Paypal ones and didn't know about these others

Yes, thanks CheCazzo for the list of emails for forwarding spam emails to. I have just had another saying I am due a tax refund from the so-called HMRC so have forwarded it onto phishing@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk Hopefully it will help them to track down these criminals and get them put behind bars! mugshot-smiley-emoticon.gif
:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea
• They'll never put them behind bars mainly because - and I accept a degree of generalisation in this statement - but mainly because a very great deal of them are operating in a back room in Nigeria and are out of reach and they know it. So the best anyone can hope for is to close down the scams as they come - you'd think these asshats would get bored of it but apparently not and worryingly that must mean that once in every so often it's worth their while. Sad.

Rumour has it that the bad spelling/grammar serves a purpose - those who don't spot it or ignore it are exactly the stupid targets the spammers hope to hook.

The Spam that really annoys me is the "American Only" stuff for medicaid, AT&T, refunds from the IRS, Auto-tolls on the Golden Gate bridge etc - Dear Spammer, what's the point of sending this to a .co.uk email address?

in a bed

or as theyre nigerian probably on a boat floating over to malta/italy

( i await the ban )
• While Nigeria is most often the nation referred to in these scams, in 2006, 61% of Internet criminals were traced to locations in the United States, while 16% were traced to the United Kingdom and only 6% to locations in Nigeria.
• Does anyone get the "Notice to Attend Court" (somewhere in America) spam?

I seem to get a lot of those lately.

In what reality do you get a court summons via email? lol

I received about 4 of them earlier this year- they were in my non-comping email account. :)

Though one of them was supposed to be in Scotland... :)
• I've also had plenty of these emails and always delete them, but this week I actually received a letter through the post from a "solicitor" informing me that he would like to make me beneficiary of a $2.5 million will. The letter has a phone number and email address of a solicitor in New York which I have googled.

The envelope has a "Gleneagles Ryder Cup" post mark but the sender says he posted it in London. The envelope also has a first class stamp on it, I don't know how he got my personal details from as I am very careful with on line security.
Who would I report this to or should I just bin it?
