I had a one from Barclays bank today - they need to confirm my account number , address, password etc. Weird as I don't even bank with Barclays!

I always instantly delete these emails but sometimes I am so tempted to reply back with something like 'Do you think I was born yesterday mate! Or give them fake details such as:

Miss F Off
13 Getalife Lane
Spam Town
PI22 OFF
Account number: 12345678
Password: Just4u!

I won't reply though as don't want them to think my email is 'live'.

Love it :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Yes, I've often been tempted too. Getting them to trace a non existent bank account with a company I don't bank with and then saying it was them who said i had an account there :p

It is tempting to reply back though! giggling-green-turtle-smiley-emoticon.gif
:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea
• Sometimes I read an email where I am 99% sure it is fake, but that 1% of me thinks it might be true (not the big money ones!) but the PayPal access ones for instance. They do seem convincing. Just got to press the delete button real quick!

It is hard to convince older people that there are scammers around. Dad was on Facebook and thought he was signing up for an Ipad (or something like that), just because a "friend" was mentioned in the blurb. He didn't for a minute think it was a scam. I do worry about that sort of thing happening again.

I usually just click block on these spammy ones without even reading them. A couple of times recently, I have got a message saying that I cannot block my own email address. They have obviously got wise to the fact that people are blocking them and are making it look that it was sent from your own email so that you cannot block it.
• sadly, many people who are not spam savvy will get caught out. I wish there was an easy way to report these to authorities, and for them to take it seriously.
Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)
• I can't imagine a comper having the kind of spare time this requires but just in case you ever find yourself up to date and nothing to do for an hour or so this is well worth a read

It's where scambaiters actually do string them along and make proper monkeys of them - very entertaining but as I say, time consuming!
• I've had you can't block your own email one as well Getting about 30 spams a day now. It's freaky 'cos the latest one was purporting to be from Jeep Cherokee & I'd just entered a comp on here to win one! Had phone call (I'm ex directory) yesterday from a call centre, he knew my name & wanted my bank details to pay my PPI compo into it. I did a 1471 & the number was 00 which originates from USA. Luckily I've never taken out PPI but what if you had been expecting some?

Most big companies do have a department to report them to -

spoof@paypal.co.uk

stop-spoofing@amazon.com

internetsecurity@barclays.co.uk

reportphishing@apple.com

phishing@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk

You might think reporting it is useless as they keep coming but every one you receive will be a different attempt to the one before and as you report them so the security departments of the businesses concerned will start working to close them down so you are helping by reporting. I always report - some acknowledge, some don't but if I can help stop one vulnerable person being taken in then it's time well spent.
