Gutted!!

Just logged on to turn my holiday settings off, thought it was a bit weird I had not sold a single thing since Friday morning as, last time I was away for 11 days, I had 52 sales. Well, I looked in my shop and it was empty.

Was on the phone to eBay when I realised something....... I forgot to uncheck the box to hide all my listings. Why that is automatically checked I do not know.

Now the waiting game to see how long it will take to turn the damn thing back on again and for the listings to show. Someone said right away - I am not convinced, time will tell I guess but 5 days lost sales.

Bah!!!

    Bah!!!

You have had a bad time with Ebay haven't you what with the missing parcels and the holiday settings not being turned on!

I was in Wales for a week, I turned off my holiday settings firs thing in the morning as I was heading home, and I had my first sale at around 5 p.m. - it seemed to take a few hours for my listings to come back on.

I'd much rather it had to be unchecked to keep listings visible, as enabling holiday settings does not adjust delivery estimates, so will only lead to enquiries about items from buyers who did not notice the small holiday message ebay add to each listing.

If you are going away but want to leave listings live, it is much more advisable to extend your dispatch times, which effectively is what the holiday settings should be doing.

We leave our listings visible if away for a short time & adjust the Despatch Time to suit, No cases can be opened till the Delivery Day has passed
  • Yeah, I came on today to switch them off but extend dispatch times and change postage option to 2nd class postage instead as I thought eBay might have decided shops that were on holiday should be hidden, LOL. Irony.

I am here to answer emails but we are having work done on the house and my kitchen and stuff from a 2nd lounge, is in the main lounge and I cannot move apart from one sofa so thought shutting it would be better.

But never mind. I was just having a moan. :) We will see, I've had a few days break I suppose.

I *think* I have got to the bottom of the missing parcels though. Some have started arriving - drips and drabs. Some people have not responded at all to my messages - I guess they would have emailed had they not got them already. There seems to only be a few confirmed packets missing now (but 15 unconfirmed and I do not know what to do about those - wait until the people complain maybe??) but I will suck that up and the buyers have ALL been amazing over it, and apart from a couple of cases initially opened there have been no more, they all said they appreciated my honesty and communication in keeping them informed as soon as I knew. But, one of the items arrived 'completely soiled and unwearable' on Saturday, emailed yesterday after I messaged, so I wonder if there has been a spillage as it was new clothing which came in a box. The only reason I can think of it being damaged is that something got spilt on the bags and they all had to be cleaned up *shrugs*. I arranged some parcels to be resent yesterday and before I could take them I got 'it's just arrived' messages, please do not worry about sending a replacement. So..... the last few weeks have been VERY challenging BUT onwards and upwards. I have had some Grrrrrrr moments but also some positives have come out of this and we are moving forward. I just have to remember not to be so stupid and check the holiday settings next time.

Thanks for listening to me moan. :D
  • I have no-one else to moan to - you lot are my first point of call if I have had a cra ppy day. My husband doesn't get it at all, LOL. All us eBayers are in it together. :D

I know exactly what you mean, I try and explain to my OH sometimes why I am cross about something, or why I *have* to go to the PO and he just doesn't get it. Yet when he buys things he seems to expect it next day.

As for your holiday settings, they are probably tinkering again with default settings. I use my holiday settings a couple of times a week and hide all my listings, but have to tick a box to say I want them hidden. My sales usually start up again within an hour or two of being switched back on.

  • Soo, you are right - on both counts. They totally don't get it at all. I think it is nice to have a group of people that we can moan about DSR's and Defects to, if I mention it to other people they glaze over so I have given up trying.

Something has just sold so you are right, they are not hidden for long. I am such an idiot!! I won't do that again will I?

But to open my shop and see 0 items for sale put me into a complete panic at 9am. :o

    Doh!!!

Can you do that for every item at once?

There is a much easier way:

Hover over: My Account> Click: Business Policies

Choose the postage option (I have 3 option, standard and 2 x free posting ones) and then edit. it will tell you how many listings you have assigned to that postage policy, you can then amend and it updates all of them. Takes approx 10 seconds.

I recently found out if you have some that do not meet the criteria of new photos then they will be left and put into a 'copy' policy. For some reason it keeps on knocking my photos out on TL. Nice.
