  • JUDI I have just read your post about your Son, I wish him all the luck in the world with the detox.

DD1 is a Nurse and before her various ops on her leg she was a staff nurse on a gastro ward. I know for a fact she has spent hours talking to some of her patients who have been admitted with various liver problems due to alcohol. She was never judgmental with them and would explain to us that alcoholism was an illness.

I do hope you Son beats this dreadful illness, because you must worry about him all the time I wonder whether he will be able to keep in touch with you whilst he is undergoing treatment.

Hope you are feeling a bit brighter this afternoon, you seem to have so much to cope with at the moment. By the way the photos of the babies were lovely, any news on Soldiers little episode\? Was it just one of those things children sometimes have with no explanation?

    Take care

LW & Judi, behave, lol, I spat water over my keyboard, I'm suffering too, it's a bit sparse round here when hubby is on lates, which is usually every third week, but because of staff shortages he's on lates at least 2 weeks on the trot!
    I am behaving! Just badly!:rotfl:

I was hoping you were coping relatively ok with the disturbance to your usual pattern of life LW, how long will your shiny new kitchen take to be finished?
Hopefully be finished by the end of the week; it's very stressful having my house invaded - I'm having to have DVDs on in the lounge to drown out their radio; their idea of "music" sounds to me like cats fighting!:D

Afternoon everyone. Hugs and good thoughts to everyone who needs them.
It's a beautiful day here, now that the recycling lorries have gone.I hope it's nice wherever you are.

The surveyor's visit went well yesterday - all being well, our cladding, drainpipes, fascia, etc should be refitted by the end of next month. it's a bit of a chunk out of the household budget, but we haven't had to spend anything on the physical upkeep for several years and this should keep things as they should be for a good while.

OS -wise, I portioned up the pork bol which had been in the SC, then came across most of the ingredients for a basil/rockt pesto, so out came the blender . |The blender took one look at the parmesan rinds and seized up, so the mini chopper (used once in 4 years) came out and that did the job. I filled a 6-hole silicone muffin case and a finger-style ice tray with the resulting pesto, even if I had to resort to using powdered garlic as I didn't have any fresh stuff left. It tasted ok though.
I also sliced up a T*esco YS beef joint (about 1kilo) which got the low and slow treatment with a glass of wine and assorted veg in a roasting bag. Worked a treat. Some of it has gone into a mash-topped pie for DH's tea with the gravy, while the rest has been frozen for DH's sandwiches.
I also got a pan of stock from a defrosted chicken carcass which is gelling in the fridge, and I 'll probably use that for a vegetable soup for tea to use up the bits and pieces lurking in the fridge.
I'm going to head off fairly soon to see how many apples I can get off the tree near our local Spar. It's on a grass verge which the council cut, so I don't think that it belongs to anyone. I picked a few the other week, and nuked them yesterday with a splash of water. They were very tart as they were, but responded nicely to some Demerera and cinnamon. If i get a move on, I'll be there and back before the school run, which plays havoc with the traffic around here at times.

    Enjoy your afternoons, everyone.

    Hi everyone,

Tru, no you're not unreasonable. DH once spilled something on the carpet and used the not so little) hand held vac to clear up. So far so good, except he left the vac with the flex trailing across the room on the floor next to where the mess had been. I decided to leave it to see how long it would take him to put it away. Four days later I cracked and asked him if he was ever going to put it away - I swear he had been stepping over the thing and not even noticing it!

Dumpling, hope you feel better soon.

I couldn't get to sleep again last night - 4 am, so frustrating. I have the dentist this afternoon, but just to put the permanent crown on so it shouldn't take long. I'm trying to just buy milk and veg this week to use up the meat in the freezer, some of it has been in there far too long.

I finished quilting a small quilt yesterday, just the binding to put on - my least favourite part of the process. I'm piecing a top which is going slowly because I have to be very careful to orient the fabric correctly and I have another baby quilt top ready to sandwich and quilt.

    Have a good day.

    Happy to join you
  • JUDI, do you think it is because we live in the Midlands that we look to move to some where rural?

I wouldn't like to move abroad, but I would like to move some where near the coast. The only fly in the appointment there is, that we couldn't be that far away from our grandchildren.

We have had so much input with them ever since they were born. Our SIL is a ******* (insert whatever you want there), and DD2 does everything she is told to do, or else. Not physical abuse but mental. The children know they can come to us at any time, and they do.

Anyway we are all entitled to have our little dreams, but the children are far more important, and we love them to bits.

I hope Soldier shakes off the chest infection.

    Much love

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?
  • JUDI we have been to some lovely places in Europe, but never further afield because Himself won't fly.

Italy is by far our favourite place. The scenery is wonderful, the people are lovely and the food out of this world. If you ever did have the chance go to Italy. We have been several times, always either by coach or train, and the trains are gorgeous, air conditioned and comfy and CLEAN. If you go to one of the lakes you can travel by boat to all the little villages around the lake, jumping on them like you would a bus here.

Get that passport and go travelling, you never know DH might enjoy it and be more amenable (Sp) :)

  • Afternoon all,

Hugs to those that would like them and for those of you not feeling too good, I hope you are feeling better soon.

It's been a gloriously sunny day here after the mist had burnt off.
Walked with my friend this morning and managed to fill up two large Tesco shopping bags with the drops from the local orchard. We couldn't decide if they used a machine to pick them and the smaller ones somehow fell through the hole? Anyway tomorrow I shall be making apple chutney :)

I seem to have been on the go all day, so it's nice to sit and browse on here for a while with a cup of coffee.

Anyway DH is cooking dinner tonight - he is doing something with the mince. He did suggest a meatloaf but to be honest I don't really like it...

Have a good evening all :)

Be very careful about France, without some ability to speak the language at least semi fluently, then you are up the creek without a paddle. Inheritance laws are also funny, and their winters though can be warmer than ours in places, are not hot. Hence our loving France but buying a second home in Spain, even though my French is/was miles better than my Spanish, I know speak a great version of SpanFranglais.

I have seen more people regret the move than those who don't.

    Evening all,

Lovely day here today, DD4 going to cinema so she and DGS2 staying the night, means he can go tobed at his normal time and then they can head off to school together in the morning, nearer from herevthan their own house.

1 wash done today, OH will hang it out tomorrow, as I cant carry things. Dinner was lamb chops with potatoes, carrots and broccoli, followed by last oof apple and blackberry tart with ice cream....might go out and get some more blackberries in a bit and make another.

Getting on with blanket I am doing for DDIL, its only 1.5 x2.2 metres so wont take too long if I stay at it.

Judi......my OH is becoming more and reluctant to travel and I havefound that the best thing to do is say " I am going to.......wherever, you are welcome to come if you like, but I am going anyway" He cant bear the thought of being on his own, so comes round eventually!

Had better move on and make my pastry, which can chill as I pick the fruit.

Have a good evening all, stay safe and well

    Marie
