O/S Daily Thread Tuesday 16th September

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Good morning everyone
Even more of a stupid o'clock get up for me today than the usual one. I just can't sleep because I am coughing all the time, so ended up getting up and having more cough medicine. I know I will be exhausted later but no matter how tired I am, I just can't sleep through. It's driving me mad, just want to be better soon. Between this and recent surgery, I feel like I have been ill for months.
DD still hasn't had student loan so is unable to pay back the money she owes us, so we had to raid £2 coin Christmas fund for food, petrol and to sub her for bus fares, lunches etc. She can't get appointment to see student welfare officer until tomorrow but hopefully will be sorted out soon.
Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day.

Morning :hello:
TTFTM I hope you feel better soon xx Have you tried Covonia Night Time? It knocks me out for hours.
Judi Thinking of you and your son xx
Lilyplonk I asked immediate neighbours how they felt about chickens before we bought them, they weren't bothered. When someone bought the house to our left, I wondered if they'd mind. Turned out he was a landlord and found them amusing, he told prospective tenants about them when he showed them round the house. The people who moved in are fab and are quite happy to get free eggsWe've ended up bartering a lot with them so it's worked out well. I often catch the lady over the back talking to them throught the fence, I pretend I don't notice in case she gets embarrassed or something
I've been in next door's house while there's been a bit of squawking going on, I could hardly hear it. Which surprised me, because while in my own house it seems really loud. I've come to the conclusion that the fence absorbs most of the sound
Most the time the noise is just a bit of quiet clucking, with the occasional announcement of “look at me, I've laid an egg!” lol. Plus no noise at night – they put themselves to bed as soon as it starts to get dark.
We gave one of other neighbours some courgettes the other day, she sent her son round with some apples from her tree. Am now wondering if she'll send plums round if I give her some eggs
Yesterday wasn't great – I sent off something in the post, along with a note. When I got back I found the note on the kitchen table  I opened a jar of pickled eggs and tipped the vinegar down my t-shirt. And discovered that although I can run up the stairs and march up a steep slope no problem, a gentle slope causes a limp that lasts all day. Pffft. My shelves are clean and clutter-free though
I'm going into town today – there are no slopes except for one road so I'll be avoiding itI need a few things but hopefully will have to visit just two shops to get them – I really hate shopping.
Quick question - don't answer specially, just if you're doing a post anyway – if someone makes a mess and can't be bothered to clear it up before they go to bed, then doesn't sort it before they go to work, is it unreasonable of me to ignore it all day and leave it for the person who made the mess?

Mornin' everybody :hello: - We finally had some rain yesterday evening and it's continuing to look overcast this morning. Can't tell properly as it's only just getting light.
Thanks for starting today's thread, TTFTM - sorry to hear that you've had a bad night's sleep. Hope thatgoes away soon. Fingers crossed for your DD with the Student Welfare department - the first few weeks are always bad whilst trying to get the finances sorted out.
Didn't have a very good night's sleep - tossing and turning way too much. I'm due to go to Scotland in around 5wks with my 2DSis's and DBro, that seemed to be going round and round in my head all night with really stupid possible scenarios invading my brain.
I'm doing an extra shift in the CS this afternoon to cover for somebody who's got a GP's appointment. It's a team of people that I've worked with before, so I'm looking forward to their company.
I'll pop back in again later to see how folks are getting on.
luv Lilyplonk xxx
cross-posted with you, tru. Thanks for the info on the chooks - I'm also looking to start a veg patch, so maybe I can bribe neighbours with some eggs and veg.
As regards the mess left by another person - NO you are NOT being unreasonable! As long as it's another adult who's caused the mess - let 'em clear it up themselves!!!
If it's a child, ask them to help you clear it up.0 -

Have a good day everyone xx0 -
Morning All
tru - this happens here all the time. I get up and see DDs cup/biscuit packet, etc and leave them. I either tell her or leave her a note. If they are still there when I get in from work I have a hissy fit - usually works!
The only problem is if I am in all day I can't stand to see it there all day.
TTFTM - Hope you get some relief from that cough soon, I have used night nurse in the past and benylin but (and I say this quietly) I swig from the bottle so I get a good dose! We had a local pharmacist who made up cough medicines and used to put 'Take a big swally at night' on the label!
Lily - We had hens at the last house and I found them very amusing and fairly easy to look after. They could be quite devastating in the garden though between their manure and they would peck at all the plants (except nettles!).
Had a nice meal with DD last night at Z!zzis in Glasgow. We had a £25 voucher from test driving the car so it only cost £4.25, very OS. We were both really tired so just came home again.
I managed to give the shelves a last coat of paint before I went to bed, just the walls to do so will start that when I get home from work. I think the wooden flooring is arriving today but will need to sit in the house for a few days before it's laid.
Washing about to go out, DW emptied and making packed lunches shortly. Hope you all have a good day and the poorlies feel better soon. Take care. XX0 -
Morning all
Fish fed, packup made, breakfast eaten, hubby has a cuppa on his bedside table.
Molly, I hope you are ok, TTFM, I hope things get better for you soon. LW, I hope the kitchen fitters finish soon, it must be very stressful for you. Tru, I would clear up after my hubby as I work less hours than he does, having said that he doesn't leave a mess, he's tidier than me.
DD still hanging on in there.I did a couple of alterations last night so another few pennies for the coffers.
There is a possibility I may get the reduced hours I asked for last year, I shall be pleased if I do as I feel able to work for more years if I work less hours.
Have a good day everyone.

Morning everyone.
Second day of leaving the car parked in a side street and walking about 800m to the office. Parking charges almost doubled at this start of term (uni) and I'm not prepared to pay it. Actually feels so good to start walking again, I used to walk about 5 miles round trip each day to work (about two jobs ago), lost loads of weight and felt so much better for it. Then new job meant car journeys and days in front of PC. Will build the walking up so that I'm doing more. Funnily enough I walk loads when at home.
All this talk of chickens is lovely. The farmer next door to me keeps them and last week there was one hen walking around with her sixteen chicks, yes, sixteen. So lovely. And they have four cockerels which is about two too many. On Sunday I was given some home made bramble jelly from foraged berries and am going to use it on some venison next weekend.
Work goes on... just working up to leaving I think. Getting more fed up and less worried about no income.
It's getting harder to avoid any radio or TV programmes about the referendum - will read books until Friday I think!
Need to take the car in for a new bulb over the back number plate, it's such a pain these days to get bulbs changed. Feels like the car is being taken apart. Got an MOT booked for Saturday so it needs done more urgently than normal.
Hope all is well with everyone. Good wishes are being sent out from me.
Happy Tuesday.
PS - as for the mess being left, try just putting the stuff in the bin if it's left out too long. Message may get across when there are no mugs left to use. (of course putting crockery/cutlery in the bin isn't at all MSE like so you could just hide them and pretend they're in the bin. Or put them in the bin and allow the miscreant to find them, retrieve them and wash them!). Just an evil suggestion.0 -
Morning all
Pouring with rain here and sore throat has returned, one of the clients came in yesterday with a terrible throat and he was so hot to touch, makes me so mad the homes send then in because they dont want them at home during the day but they come in and spread it round to everyone else ! poor chap just sat with a cold drink all afternoon, bless him.
Off to work for me will do a spag bol for dinner nice and easy, will also put a wash on tonight.
I must order taps as well, still have not got round to it !
Tru my OH has got into the habbit of leaving his cups plates etc next to the sink in the morning, which is right next to the dw  If I am at work I leave them there all day till he puts them in the dw at night, if Im at home
I usually crack and tidy them away as I cant stand mess !
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Now light, foggy and not very nice. Hoping the sun will break through once the fog lifts.
DH up and gone to work early but not stupid early. DS1 gone to work. Washing put on the line by DS2, DH put some letters in the post box on his way to work.
Dinner last night was Hunters Chicken, new potatoes, carrots, HG green beans and peas, ice cream for those that had room, and LO apple crumble. Tonight the menfolk will be having fish, chips and beans, I’ll be having fishcakes, jacket potato and veg.
Feeling a bit better this morning, but still ache, slept for a while yesterday morning then just took it very steady yesterday afternoon, had a little while on pc, then watched a bit of tv, and then just looked at a few cookery books – I felt like I could have gone back to sleep but didn’t want to as knew I’d struggle to sleep last night. Just feeling rather low at the moment, I’m struggling as there’s so much I normally just get on and do and I can’t at the moment. I know it could be a lot worse and I should be grateful that it isn’t ………….. think I need to have a word with myself!
I did start an online MrT order yesterday for delivery on Thursday and I’ll be adding to it as and when needed – I’ll be using my gesture of goodwill coupon from my complaint last week, and the other money to be refunded has been credited to the bank today too!
Take care x
Keep safe and well x

Good morning everyone :hello:
Before I forget, Tru, you are definitely NOT being unreasonable to leave the mess for whoever made it.
I am not very well today so will keep this short and sweet. I went shopping yesterday but had to leave the shop very quickly as I started to panic, I'm still not right today so I will be heading back to bed for the day today. Hope everyone manages to have a good day and sending you hugs if you are feeling poorly or just want one. Take care xx0
