2 hours before I fly?

Just a quick question. If I am flying from a Midland airport to Belfast, (it is a one hour flight) do I still need to check in 2 hours before the flight? The airline will probably be Flybe. Thanks.

If you are doing hand luggage only you really only need to het there just before the gate closes however you still have to go through the security screening and that can take a while in a busy airport.

Check flybe's as well as the airports website. They will give minimum times. But build in some contingency too to allow for security queues etc

If the airport in question is East Midlands then you need to allow three hours to get through security.

Yes, you do. It doesn't matter that it's a domestic flight, you still need to go through the same security as all the international flight passengers.

  • My rule for getting to airports is that you "cannot be too early". I'd always add on at least an extra hour to allow for traffic or public transport delays. It's better to spend the extra time sat having a beer or coffee in the airport rather than getting stressed over traffic jams or cancelled trains.
  • There was a link last week about someone flying from East Midlands Airport, arrived 2 hours early, got stuck in security for 1 hr 50 and missed their flight. So please allow a bit extra if it's this airport. If you do get stuck in the queue speak up and make a nuisance of yourself!
