Your thoughts on a crash i was in
on 19th August myself and another gent were involved in a crash. I took pictures of his vehicle and exchanged details at the scene. He assured me he didn't want to go down the insurance route, we both agreed on this and went on our way.
We spoke afterwards on the phone. He said he had his car looked at and the damage was 150 and his excess was 1000 so, again, said he wasn't going down the insurance route.
I then had a missed call and voicemail on my phone from "Direct Accident Management". I didn't answer but instead phoned the guy I had a crash with. I recorded the call. He said in the call just to ingore them phoning, his garage referred him to them but he doesn't wanna go down this route as it is only £150 of damage which his garage confirmed. This was on the 20th August.
Fast forward to Saturday 13th September, I receive a claims letter from Direct Accident Management saying that they have taken his car in for inspection and they carried out £1,985 worth of work on his car. Baring in mind it is a 10 year old, old style corsa, which he had chaved up I really don't think what the damage reported is consistent with the incident we were in.
Surely he can't wait to have his vehicle checked 3 weeks later? Anything could have happened in that time! Also I have videos of his car from the scene, pictures, text messages and a recording of his phone call saying it was only £150 damage!
What should I do? How should I reply to the letter from the company? I think he is trying his luck!
Also his car was fit to drive and the engineers report says it was fit to drive yet he has opted into a car hire scheme until payment has been made for the costs? Surely not!

Pass this unanswered to your insurer to deal with. (Now you know why you should tell your insurer when involved in an incident!)
Credit hire can get very expensive!0 -
Bit late for this one OP but learn from it and get a dashcam.0

The OP didn't say it was his fault. (Although it could be inferred from the tone of the post).0 -
I suspect this guys been taken in by the garage whom earn referral fees for getting the management company involved. £150 of damage to a private customer soon gets bumped up when being paid for by an accident management company who then throw in a hire car etc etc.
Phone the guy and see what he says.0
