Hi all
I bought a tyre online for my BMW 1 series
it has just been delivered and i have been to the garage to get it fixed
they have told me that although i have the right type of tyre i need a run flat one not a normal
the company i bought it from has no phone number and it says if i cancel my order i will have to pay shipping costs, which is in germany, there is nothing online about exchanges
so i have any other option but to pay the excess shipping charges?
thanks

Don't see as you have any other options, doubtful you'll be able to sell it on and make enough to make up the delivery cost shortfall.0

You only need a run-flat if you get a puncture don't you. I presume there is no spare wheel? If not just buy one of those instant tyre repair and inflator cans and hope you don't get a puncture and that if you do, the can will get you home; just like most people without run-flats and spare wheels.0

I have been to the garage and they have said that i have 4 run flat tyres on my car and the one i ordered is a normal tyre! does that make a difference?0

Run flat weighs more, you have to have them on all 4 corners or none at all.
Also I'm fairly sure there's some "fuss" about the 1 series and run flat tyres.
They can also affect the ride too, because suspension set up for run flats will have harder springs and softer dampers.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

If you fit non run flats it will drive much better
Cans of foam are ok if you don't have a blow out.
You can get tyre repair kits for a fiver on ebay, takes 2 minutes to do.0 -

I know 2 people that have bought a 1 series, and both got rid within weeks due to not liking the ride0 -
There's no legal or MOT requirement to pair runflats up, but it may be wise.
You ordered the tyre, so it's your responsibility to ensure you were ordering the right thing. Your choices, basically, are...
- Return it, and pay the shipping charges to do so.
- Resell it.
- Buy a pair to it, and fit the non-runflats as a pair.
- Fit it without a matching pair.
If t'were me, I'd be looking closely at the remaining tread on the opposite tyre, and thinking seriously about ordering a match to the one you've bought, then fitting those as a pair.
If you get a puncture in a runflat, you get a limited capability to drive to somewhere less inconvenient to deal with it. If you get a puncture in a normal tyre, you'll need to deal with it there and then, in the absence of a spare. You may have a leak-seal/reinflation kit, which'll give you similar capability as a runflat. If not, they're not expensive or bulky.0 -
Keep it until the other 3 need done as well and get a matching set. Put another runflat on for now.0

Have you tried emailing the company and explaining?
Companies generally get cheaper postage costs so they may be able to arrange a return much cheaper than you can, if you are buying a run flat as a replacement, they may even do it for free.0 -
At least it wasn't four tyres.
I managed to buy a set of winter tyres for my wife's car at a bargain price as a result of a similar cöck-up. The seller had had a brain fart while ordering and specified 18" instead of 17.0
