Economists Urge Scotland to Vote No......

To be fair I think the Yes campaign discussed the economy quite a bit. Admittedly it was in the usual fantasist terms of the left: IIRC they were going to create jobs by selling renewable energy that cost three times the price of electricity made from burning stuff.
I was thinking back to the TV debates. AS was promising 3,000 new nurses etc. All funded by oil of course. Which sounded more like a General Election manifesto pledge. Than a blueprint for sound financial independence in the longer term. Then there was the issue of the splitting of the National Debt.0 -

As Generali said once, you'll never convince a racist that they arent a member of the master race.
Did I say that? I'm quite pleased with it :j0 -
That's what 10 pints of "Old Peculiar" does to you 'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0

We had quite some discussion earlier this year on the "racist" attitude of the SNP with their continued carping about Westminster aka English. I can't say that would agree with the word "racist"; the mindset is a mixture of things. Certainly ant-English comes into it for some of the hardliners but there is is a peculiar mix of superiority (once in total control of everything the Scottish Nation's inventive brilliance would consider everything and achieve an economic miracle), and of inferiority (Scotland is held down by a malicious Westminster and always gets the worse deal going). Then of course there is the "Me, Me, Me" approach, the something for nothing freeloading culture that pervades the SNP thinking and promotes the concept of an ever-expanding welfare state subsidised by someone else; If not the UK then the EU as per Ireland economic model.
All that is in operation today and seems to attract many Scots, particularly those on low income.
Vote SNP and get a better Devolution settlement has short term attraction to many I would imagine but not in the long term methinks. That naked selfishness is already grating on the English voter and largess can be withdrawn. Already I suspect that some look forward to the return of the "Made in England" prompt for purchases.
I've no doubt that UK, repeat UK, politicians are well aware of all this and are not prepared to accede to the views of the losing side in the Scottish Referendum.Union, not Disunion

It's quite a pithy observation. I fully intend to plagiarise it. Consider yourself notified.
Oh yeah, I'm all about open commons on here. Unless there's money in it of course.
IIRC, everything we write on here becomes the copyright of whoever Martin sold out to.:money::money::money::money:0 -

They've bought themselves a pup then if you ask me.If you think of it as 'us' verses 'them', then it's probably your side that are the villains.0 -

No, the English don't actually figure much in this one. Certainly not in terms of voting in the SNP to either Holyrood or Westminster. I'm afraid that's what really irks. The fact that UK politics isn't revolving round you for once. But that's UK democracy and all being part of a union for you. ( I see your sig is supportive of this ).
I do have to ask what you think is going to happen if Labour/Tory get round about the same amount of seats.. but not enough to form a majority even with Lib Dems.. and the SNP is the only party that will bring the numbers up ?
I think it's a fair question to ask. Given that it's one of a few a possible outcomes to the next election.
Pompus carping on ( as in the last two pages of self-congratulatory back-slapping here ) about how the 'English won't accept it', 'never acede to the losing side in the referendum' and breathless unfounded comments on 'racism' isn't really going to answer that one it is it ? .. What will you actually do ?
Well ?
Ps SNP MP's are actually UK politicians. Repeat.. are UK politicians elected to the UK parliament. The same as Plaid, Greens, UKIP, the DUP, Sinn Fein ( who don't take their seats ) and the three other main UK parties are.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0
