Modern MacBook Pro's do, the mini-DVI was stopped in 2008 and replaced with MiniDisplay Port which in turn was replaced with Thunderbolt and HDMI was added. Thunderbolt is backwardly compatible with mini-Display Port though.

I'm always twitchy with 3rd party converters as many dont actually convert the signal but simply change the port shape and so wont work unless you have an odd monitor which accepts HDMI over VGA

I'd get a mini-display port to VGA converter, make sure it is mini-display port though as I've seen a few mini-DVI adapters miss sold as mini-display port

Mine's a mid 2010 MBP so it'll be MiniDisplay Port rather than Mini DVI. I've never really took that much notice.

I've only used it a few times when a larger screen was needed for meetings. I got the adapter off eBay, cheap as chips and works perfectly every time I've needed it to.
One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.
