Bt infinity question

Not only am I finding it very hard to do an order online with BT but im unsure on part of it.

It says if you take option 2 you do not pay the £35 activation fee yet it is coming up on the order page.

Also does anyone know if the adaptors that you plug in the wall are actually needed? we have the ones now we use for our current set up and wondered if they are the same ones, can we save another £35 or not? don't mind getting them but if their not needed?!

Thanks

The activation fee is not just the splitters or micro-filters etc.

They changed the faceplate on my install so i dont need the splitters. But i went with PlusNet so no extra setup or activation fee.

Can someone please confirm my maths on the topcashback deal with BT? As I see it, cost over 18 months is £585 but I get £202 cashback and £125 in Sainsburys vouchers, making a net outlay of £258, equating to less than £15 per month for phone, broadband and TV package??

With BT Infinity it used to be you had to have to faceplate installed (along with an engineer visit). But they have changed it now to be self install (you can still have an engineer visit). This just involves the equipment being sent to you (including adaptors), the engineer does all the work at the cabinet instead, and you get told when you can plug all you fibre equipment in.
You can still have an engineer visit, at a reduced cost I believe. This will include an all in one faceplate being installed.

But if you take option 2 it says you don't need to pay the set up fee?! I understand you may need other bits but wondered if it was necessary to buy the added plugs they require or do the ones I have now work the same?

Thanks. It wasn't the engineer I was worried about it was the 2 plugs I have in the walls that the tv box & broadband are plugged into. Do I need new ones or do the ones I have work the same? guarantee if I call them they will say I need them?!
  • You'd be better off fitting a filtered faceplate and putting your home hub close to the master socket. That's what the engineer install would do.

Your ADSL filters will work but there is no guarantee that you won't end up with a lower speed doing things that way as the high frequency VDSL signal will be present on all of your internal wiring. The ADSL "ring wire problem" will apply too.

Your question isn't clear. Do you mean powerline adapaters to do networking over the mains? If so, you don't need to change those.

  • BT Infinity 2 has no activation fee and a new face plate is fitted when the engineer visits so no adaptors.
