Washer dryers

I love my washer dryer! It has a 9kg washing capacity and 7kg drying, so I don't struggle to get stuff dried. And not having 15 children I don't need to have several loads of washing washed and dried every day. In fact prior to last winter we didn't have a dryer at all. It was only because of our washer dying and getting a full refund, and the weather generally becoming wetter that we decided to go for it. It's been brilliant.
No way would I be without a dishwasher.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -

Washer/dryers are crap.
1. you have to dry 1 washload in 2 parts you can't just switch from one to the other.
2. you cannot wash one load while you dry the last lot
3. they are inefficient and more expensive to run.
4. when one part breaks you are without a washer or a dryer
5. They have more parts to break.. see above!
6. they take 4 times longer to dry a load than a vented dryer... at least! [/QUOTE]
I agree with this. My mum had a washer/drier and had all of the above.
I really dislike washing dishes but could not give up my tumbley.
Can't stand wet washing hanging around, just want to get stuff washed, dried and put away in wet wintry weather.
Summer is different, washing goes out on the line.
If I had a dishwasher it would have to go where the drier is, so the drier would share my bedroom.!:rotfl:Fully paid up member of S.A.B.L.E.

Hi,
I don't know if they have got any better but we had one in my uni house (7 years ago) and to be honest it was pants. It would take atleast 3 hours to dry the washing!!!!!!
I used to do my washing on a 30 minute was and then put it on an airier/the radiator in my room or outside and it would be quicker to dry than my housemate putting it on for her clothes!!!!
you can get little counter top spin dryers, not sure what there like but they seem space saving. Thanks to money saving tips and debt repayments/becoming debt free I have been able to work and travel for the last 4 years visiting 12 countries and working within 3 of them. Currently living and working in Canada  :dance:0 -
Bitter and twisted. I cannot tell you how much I loathe washing dishes. I start the week with good intentions but by Wednesday it looks like a bomb has hit it.0

My nanna used to look after my 2 oldest while I was at college one day a week and she would wash a weeks worth of dishes I hated it with a passion.
I load the DW as we use pots.. or boss a child or ask OH to do it.. but it isn't often we have dirty pots about.. when my DW has broken it is like the world has ended.. My last one broke while I was cooking Christmas dinner nearly 2 years ago.. I had a new one by New Year!! My poor childrens hands were raw from all the pot washing(they were 11, 13, 15 and 16)

Like some others, I've had a washer dryer in my time and never again, would rather have separate machines. I'd really try to fit the tumble dryer somewhere else if you can, my neighbours had theirs in the garage for a few years until they redesigned their kitchen. (Just as we had another large freezer in there). I've seen washing machines in bathrooms, so why not a tumble dryer if you have room? Really think that you might regret ditching it, especially coming up to winter.
I didn't have a dishwasher for years, as the kitchen was too small, now have the luxury of a large kitchen, and wouldn't want to be without it now.0 -
I have a small kitchen, and have a washer dryer and a dishwasher. For me its the best of both worlds - I couldn't live without a dishwasher, but I could easily live without a dryer. I don't, however, dry clothes very often. My washer dryer is really used a washing machine, with the facility to dry the odd load when its wet and all the airers are full, or if I need to finish off drying a particular item in a hurry because I want to wear it. I have a Lakeland heated airer that I use far more than the dryer.
The drying capability of my washer dryer doesn't really compare to that of a standalone dryer, so if tumble drying is important to you, or something you use for most/every wash, you will probably be really disappointed with the performance of a modern washer dryer. But, having a small kitchen, I find its so much easier to keep it clean and tidy with a dishwasher. Pots go straight in, and so are tidy and off of the surfaces at all times.0 -
Jodi, I am perhaps more like you. I only ever dry bed linen and towels, so once a fortnight at the most. I never put clothes in. I have few enough decent clothes as it is.
Does a washer dryer wash well?0 -

I only use the tumble dryer for bedding in winter or rainy days, never clothes.I only ever dry bed linen and towels, I never put clothes in. I have few enough decent clothes as it is.
Is that because your dryers are shrinking the clothes? I never tumble clothes, because the ones I've done in the past have all shrunk.0
