Is it cheaper to buy flights seperately? HELP!!

Ive just been on to the British Airways website to look at some flights for the USA for 2 adults, however when i looked at booking for 2 adults the price was £1800.72 and when i tried looking for 1 adult it came up as £800.36.
Is this right?! So if i buy 2 plane tickets seperatley, its cheaper?!
Are there any risks with doing this? Has anyone booked theirs this way before?
It seems silly that we will be paying an extra £100 each to book our tickets together?!!
Help and advise purlese!! x

What you are seeing is the fact that there is one seat left at the £800 fare bucket and then the next fare is £900
When you choose to have more than one person on the booking it looks at the lowest fare available for the number of people on the booking as it cannot use mixed fares on a single booking so takes the 2 @ £900
The problem could be that others may be booking at the same time and you could in theory (although maybe unlikely) book one seat and then there are no more available (although if you book direct on the BA site you could call and cancel within 24 hours for refund)0 -
I have just booked some Flights with BA to LA with regional shuttles to London via American Airlines as they codeshare the same flights, but they were cheaper than BA Via Holiday Genie0
