Houston to JFK flight

Hello everyone, I am new to the forum and looking to draw on any personal experiences out there that will help me with a decision.

I am looking to book flights from Houston to JFK (need to meet a friend there) on the 16th Dec. and return NYC to Houston (any NY airport is fine on the return leg) on the 2nd Jan. I have searched on Momondo and Kayak using there multi-city function and found the cheapest appropriate flights to be approximately £180 (I have a preference on arrival times in JFK), connecting through ATL. This seemed rather expensive to me for a one-stop domestic flight!

I have read that the cheapest time to book is around 52 days before you depart, so thought about waiting it out and seeing if the flights drop. However, I am concerned that as these flights are around Christmas time there will be a high demand for them meaning the 52 days guide doesn't apply and that they may in fact only go up! In fact, the prices have crept up a few pounds in the past few days. Can anyone offer some advice on this? Is £180 expensive for this flight and should I wait it out? Or will prices most likely rise as it is a peak time to fly.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Did you include Houston Hobby airport in your searches? JetBlue fly Hobby to JFK.

Also consider Hobby to La Guardia on Southwest and then the bus to JFK.
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.
  • Thanks for your suggestions.

I did have a look at JetBlue, those flights came to over £200, for the early morning flights in both directions.

The Southwest flight came to £200 return.

Does anyone know if this is just the type of prices I can expect? Should I just snap up the Delta flights at £180 return?

    Thanks

If you book as two one-ways, out with Jetblue and back with Delta, you can get the price down to £160 as far as I can see. I don't know what the prices are normally like on that route but it doesn't sound terribly expensive to me considering the distance.

The fare is good and should be snapped up ASAP. United run non stop flights to Newark but there is nothing under £200. Its over 1400 mikes and your return date is probably the deciding factor in the fare
  • I'm guessing your return is the problem, being quite near Christmas, so I'd think that under £200 is quite a good fare.
  • Thanks for your help everyone! I went for the JetBlue flight and got a Southwestern flight for the return. Came to a total of £185, so not bad at all.
