I tend to use booking.com, ideally you would want to be in mid-town as that is near to where everything is like, Macy's, Times Square, Empire State Building etc

Our first choice, was a One Bedroom Suite at the Salisbury Hotel, for the location, next to Central Park. Was sold out when we went to book, so we settled for a new Holiday Inn, using the offer to be found on this forum. To be fair, it's all much of a muchness, unless you want to be close to a specific attraction.0

It's often worth booking hotel with the airline you book the flights with. This will give you ATOL protection and at the time we booked made a huge saving on booking separately.
You need to think about which attraction you want to see and how much walking you're prepared to do.
I've only spent 6 nights in NYC but quickly came to the conclusion that it's a great city to walk in. So much just "appears" in front of you. Equally, if you want to spend time wandering through Central Park a hotel on Wall Street isn't ideal.
Familiarise yourself with the block system on Google Maps and also the locations of your main attractions.
Streets tend to run East to West. Avenues from South to North. All things being equal I'd want to stay between 30th and 50th streets and 4th and 9th Avenues. We actually stayed on 57th which was ok, but added a fair amount of walking to our days.
All that said, things are not equal. The nearer to Times Square you are the more expensive hotels seem to get. Another consideration is breakfast. Most hotels don't include it in the price.
1) Identify the area you want to stay in.
2) Use a site like Hotels dot com to narrow the search down.
3) Draw up a short list (perhaps based on price).
4) Filter the list further after removing hotels with poor reviews on Trip Adviser.
5) Price up the cost of separate flights and hotel.
6) Price up booking flights and hotel direct with airline.
7) Make the booking via TopCashback.
8) Have a wonderful time!0 -
we are going next year and have booked Hotel Metro as part of a package with British Airways
This was recommended by someon who had stayed there, also the Salibury as mentioned above ws recommended but I couldnt get this as part of a package deal so worked out more expensive
I also fancied the Fairfield at Midtown but as this was more expensive than the Metro Hotel this made my decision. Both included breakfast which I thought would save some money as OH isnt a morning eater and I like cereal etc. Fairfield had a kitchen area but as it was over £300 dearer I didnt think it was worth it0 -

As a book-lover my fave hotel is the Library Hotel...beautiful rooms and great location too.0

hi, yes The Library looks fantastic and was also on of the more luxurious hotels I fancied. However I couldnt find this as a package with anyone other than Expedia, and it was much cheaper buying a package than paying for everything seperately.
I am travelling in June and paid £970 each for the flight and 7 nights in the Hotel. I thought this was really good especially as I am flying from Newcastle to Heathrow included in the price0 -
We stayed at the NYMA (New York Manhattan Hotel) when we visited in May this year and were very impressed with it. It cost us just under £700 for 5 nightsGrocery Challenge 2017: Mar - £0/£2000

We were in New York for New Years Eve and stayed at the Millennium Broadway, which I was more than happy with.
I've previously stayed at The Pod, which is excellent value for money.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I've stayed at Hotel Newton and would totally recommend it. Its up near 93rd street i think but directly opposite a subway station which gets you to Times Square in minutes.
Fab diner next door for breakfast and perfectly adequate rooms (we were 2 people and had a room with 2 double beds. It was small but fine for a place to crash!)0
