Isn't this true?

Your post seems to be implying that parents bear no responsiblity for their children, and that films and music impact on children's lives in the same way that legalised abortion and contraception? Is that really what you believe?
I personally think the whole thing seems to be blaming the rather nebulous idea of 'society' for the fact that parents are not taking responsibility for bringing up their kids properly. It is a lazy way of blaming everyone else for the discipline problems our kids have, when the truth is that the problem is parents believing that schools and politicians and the entertainment industry have some duty of care above and beyond that of the people who chose to bring a life into this world. It's a big fat cop out and endemic of the problem itself!
OP, I am sorry if this sounds harsh - it is not aimed at you specifically, but I am mad as hell at the continued scapegoating of everone from Marilyn Manson to McDonalds by parents who need to look carefully at their priorities.
No offence taken!
Actually, try reading it again. The way I read it, is that it's not blaming other things as such, but more about our 'allowing' these things to happen, in a way, and a direct influence of course - the parents.
We go along with children receiving contraception, we go along with the fact that the entertainment industry says that these std's are ok, then it must be ok. We don't set boundaries in case we are seen as 'old fashioned'. We are turning a blind eye and not taking responsibility, instead blaming others.
We just accept this as 'moving with the times', we accept that someone says you need to 'hug a hoodie' , then it must be ok to do so.
Don't know if I am making myself clear!

the whole post was very well said! :T
but i could have written the above statement myself (i suppose i kind of did... but it took me 100 words instead of these few! lol)0 -
Not giving children boundaries is nothing to do with 'moving with the times' - there have been lazy parents since the dawn of time.
The fact is that the majority of people are NOT criminals, whther they have read the bible or not.0 -
"Isn't this true?"
No it's BS on virtually every line.
So God didn't intervene because he 'isn't allowed in schools'. Really? And there was me thinking he was supposed to be omnipotent and omnipresent.
In the UK we teach religion in schools, in most schools it is compulsory. In the USA they don't teach religion in schools. It's very rare for a child to go into a school in the UK and shoot their classmates, sadly it's not so rare in USA. So obviously that difference in behaviour is caused by the whether or not schools teach religion.
It couldn't possibly be the consequences of differences in gun laws.
America have put their right to bear arms before their children's right to life, and as you say, they are reaping what they've sowed.
But seriously, lets go back to the good old days, when contraception and abortion weren't available. Everyone was celibate outside of marriage then. There were no forced adoptions, shot gun weddings, girls weren't locked in mental institutions for the rest of their lives because they were raped or had sex outside marriage.
There was no crime either, no one ever murdered a stranger, disrespected their elders, or stole.
It must have been Utopia.
Strangely my grandparents don't describe it quite like that. Must be old age setting in, and messing with their memories.
I wonder if you ever actually speak to anyone under the age of 50, or rather, whether you listen to them. Because I speak with kids, teenagers and young adults every day and they are as curious, interested, moral and concerned as I could hope for. They have an acute sense of justice, they worry about the environment and social equality. They are more interested in politics than most adults, and most importantly they are willing to get off their backsides and try to change things. Instead of just whining and b*tching about how it's all someone else's fault.
I can live with the tedious religious propaganda, but I am sick of people spouting garbage that writes off entire generations, and expecting us all to nod along and murmur agreement.
Respect begets respect. What are you hoping reap when you sow ideas like this? When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.0
