A little long and maybe not quite relevant to the money side (maybe a little!) but interesting reading!
Isn't this the truth?
Dear God:
Why didn't you save the school children

Dear Concerned Student:
Sorry,
I am not allowed in schools.
Sincerely,
God
How did this get started?...
Let's see, I think it started when Madeline Murray O'Hare complained She didn't want any prayer in our schools.
And we said, OK.
Then, someone said you better not:
Read the Bible in school;
the Bible that says "thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal,
And love your neighbors as yourself,"
And we said, OK...
Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children when they misbehaved because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem.
And we said,
An expert should know what he's talking about
so we won't spank them anymore..
Then someone said
Teachers and principals better not
Discipline our children when they misbehave.
And the school administrators said
No faculty member in this school better touch a student when they
misbehave
Because we don't want any bad publicity,
And we surely don't want to be sued.
And we accepted their reasoning...
Then someone said,
let's let our daughters have abortions if they want,
And they won't even have to tell their
parents.
And we said, that's a grand idea.
Then some wise school board member said,
Since boys will be boys
And they're going to do it anyway,
let's give our sons all the condoms they
want, so they can have all the fun they
desire,
And we won't have to tell their parents
they got them at school.
And we said, that's another great idea...
Then some of our top elected officials said
It doesn't matter what we do in private
as long as we do our jobs.
And we said,
It doesn't matter what anybody, including the President,
Does in private as long as we have jobs
and the economy is good....
And someone else took that appreciation a step further
And published pictures of nude children
And then stepped further still by
Making them available on the Internet.
And we said, everyone's entitled to free
speech....
And the entertainment industry said,
let's make TV shows and movies that promote
Profanity, violence and illicit sex...
And let's record music that encourages
Rape, drugs, murder, suicide, and satanic themes...
and we said,
it's just entertainment and it has no adverse effect
And nobody takes it seriously anyway,
So go right ahead.
Now we're asking ourselves
Why our children have no conscience,
Why they don't know right from wrong,
And why it doesn't bother them to kill strangers, classmates or even themselves.
Undoubtedly, if we thought about it long and hard enough,
We could figure it out.
I'm sure it has a great deal to do with...
"WE REAP WHAT WE SOW"
Why is it our children can not read a Bible in school, but can in Prison.
Isn't this the truth?

Um, Bibles might be banned in US schools, but I'm pretty sure they're not here.
And I'm sure terrible crimes are committed daily by people who DID read Bibles. My TV is broken!

I'm not sure how religion is linked to all this really. From Dr Spock down, yes, i guess you could say those changes have impacted on society today, but religion - come on!
You're entitled to your beliefs but please don't start trying to convince us the world would be great if only religion were allowed to flourish!0 -

Definitely. And crimes are committed by people who DO read Bibles, but this does make one think anyway, taking the Bible out of the equation and just going on what society is allowing in general.

I am not trying to convince anything! :rotfl: Saw this, read this, thought it interesting, sharing it.

I'd have found it more poignant if the religion thing hadn't been so prevalent, and if it hadn't been so heavily US-specific.My TV is broken!

RE does happen in our schools, as does singing hymns and saying prayers, wether you believe in it or not...always has done (because i distinctly remember having to sit through it)
and im also pretty sure most of the highly publicised crimes that have happened lately have all been done in the name of someones god.
I dont believe at all, not even a smidgey bit and a far as im aware neither do any of my family...
but as they teach it in schools my DD comes home full of questions about god that i dont know how to answer,
but my take on it all is this, she knows we dont believe but i wont try to make her mind up for her and fill her head full of my ideas, because that would make me no better than the god bothering types who wont take "i dont believe a word of it" as an answer and try to convert you!
I have always been dead against this fruity notion that what you watch on tv, in the cinema and the music you listen too can make you go out and kill,
as well as all the disney and "normal" films i have several very violent DVDs in my collection, i also own CDs by bands who write lyrics that would make your toes curl, (incidentally im also a child who suffered abuse and came from a broken home) and yet ive never been in trouble with the police, let alone taken pot shots at passers by at public building!
what ever happened to crazy? arent people allowed to go bat s**t nuts anymore without someone blaming it on the fact they saw the last half hour of a nasty film on channel 4?
if our children have no conscience and dont know right from wrong, then you dont often need to look further than blaming the parents
I know there are always exceptions to the rule, but most of the chavs round here that would rather rob you than let you walk past minding your own biz have not fallen too far from the tree if you know what i mean.0 -

Yes, my son also has RE lessons. Also goes to the local parish church. This is most definitely from the States, but I found it thought provoking, if only a for a moment!

Yup, in fact aren't the majority of Wars fought because of religion?0 -
Your post seems to be implying that parents bear no responsiblity for their children, and that films and music impact on children's lives in the same way that legalised abortion and contraception? Is that really what you believe?
I personally think the whole thing seems to be blaming the rather nebulous idea of 'society' for the fact that parents are not taking responsibility for bringing up their kids properly. It is a lazy way of blaming everyone else for the discipline problems our kids have, when the truth is that the problem is parents believing that schools and politicians and the entertainment industry have some duty of care above and beyond that of the people who chose to bring a life into this world. It's a big fat cop out and endemic of the problem itself!
OP, I am sorry if this sounds harsh - it is not aimed at you specifically, but I am mad as hell at the continued scapegoating of everone from Marilyn Manson to McDonalds by parents who need to look carefully at their priorities.0
